Mai Takes Pot; Stewart Busts
Ronald Matsuura opened to 6,000 from under the gun before Quoc Viet Mai made the call on the button. Scott Stewart joined from the big blind to create a three-handed pot.
It checked to Mai on the 2♠7♠5♥ flop before he bet 8,000. Stewart folded, but Matsuura made the call.
Matsuura checked on the 3♥ turn. Mai fired 13,000, and that was enough to get the job done as Matsuura folded to award the pot to Mai.
The very next hand, it folded to Stewart in the small blind, who shipped it for 9,500. Matsuura made the call to put Stewart at risk.
Scott Stewart: A♦4♣
Ronald Matsuura: 7♠5♠
Stewart had the edge preflop, but Matsuura would flop a lot of equity when it came 8♠K♠8♥ to give him a flush draw.
The K♦ was safe on the turn for Stewart, and it eliminated Matsuura's outs to a pair, but the flush draw still loomed with one card to come.
Stewart's Day 1b would come to a close on the 4♠ river as Matsuura hit his flush to take the pot.
