Adolfo Chavez Ships Event #5: $200 Two Green Chip Bounty Ring Event

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Adolfo Chavez
Adolfo Chavez

A series of preliminary events have been taking place in the Horseshoe Council Bluffs poker room leading up to this weekend's $575 Main Event, and PokerNews is sharing brief recaps of the week's action.

202 entrants ponied up the $200 entry fee for Event #5: $200 Two Green Chip Bounty Ring Event, in hopes of snagging some $50 bounties on their way to victory. Every player in the tournament had a $50 bounty on their heads, making the action fast and frenzied as players vied for those bounties.

Only 21 players would manage to walk away with a piece of the main prize pool, and after a three-way deal it was Adolfo Chavez who would be crowned the king of the bounties, managing to earn a $6,041 payday on top of the bounties he accrued along the way, the coveted All-Stars Ring, and 25 Casino Championship points.

Howard Left With Crumbs

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Taylor Howard
Taylor Howard

Taylor Howard jammed for 14,600 from the button, and after the small blind folded, the big blind tanked for a minute, looking at the clock at one point, before settling on a call for his last 12,500.

Opponent: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Taylor Howard: {a-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

Howard survived the {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop, but the {q-Hearts} turn left Howard well behind, and he sent the majority of his stack over to the big blind when the {8-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Reget Loses a Flip to Sjostrom

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante
Nick Reget
Nick Reget

Nick Reget raised to 2,000 from early position, and was called by a player in middle position, as well as Daniel Lowery next to act, and the small blind, before Brad Sjostrom in the big blind three-bet shoved for 5,700. Reget four-bet to 18,000, which was enough to chase out the rest of the field.

Brad Sjostrom: {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}
Nick Reget: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Reget couldn't hit his overcards on a {10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades} runout, and Sjostrom doubled up.

Garles Gets Value With Top Set

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante
Tim Garles
Tim Garles

Tim Garles was seen raking in a big pot just as the cards were being scooped into the muck, and Garles was kind enough to share details of the hand with us.

Garles opened to 1,300 from early position, and was called by a player in middle position, as well as the big blind.

The big blind checked an {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{x-} flop to Garles, who bet 1,000. Only the middle-position player called.

Garles bet 4,000 on the {10-Clubs} turn, and his opponent called again.

The {9-Hearts} hit the river, and Garles emptied the clip with a bet of 8,000. The middle-position player called, only to muck after Garles tabled {a-}{a-}.

Strohm Wins a Flip

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

A player jammed for 8,800 from the hijack, and Paul Strohm called in the small blind.

Opponent: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Paul Strohm: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

"Fair fight," Strohm quipped.

Strohm pulled well in front on the {4-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop, and never looked back on the {8-Clubs} turn or {3-Spades} river to earn the knockout.
