$200 No-Limit Hold'em

Day 1a Completed

Just 19 Survive The First Flight

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
John Stempien

The 2015 edition of Summer Slam kicked off at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel poker room today with the first of four starting flights for Event #1, a $200 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament featuring 30-minute levels, 15,000-chip starting stacks and a $50,000 guarantee.

The flight drew a total of 132 entries, but just 19 players survived through 14 levels of play. A late rush from local rounder John Stempien saw him push over the 200,000-chip mark and into the chip lead.

All 19 players will return for Day 2 Sunday at 11 a.m. local time to play down to a champion. In the meantime, three more starting flights will bloat the prizepool substantially with the second already underway and two more set for 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday.

Seven More Hands!

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

After a draw, it has been determined that the remaining players in the first flight will play seven more hands before bagging up. A full player list and chip counts will be uploaded once they're done.

In the meantime, the second starting flight has played through its first level with the board showing 38 entries. Live coverage will begin for this flight once the first one is complete.

Stempien On Top

John Stempien has emerged as the late-level leader and the only player over 200,000 in chips.

He picked up one pot with ace-high, then dragged another making a set of kings and is putting some space between himself and the rest of the pack.

Bartolotta Doubles!

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Paul Markovski limped from middle position and was the only caller when Cameron Bartolotta shipped it in from the button with {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

Markovski had set the trap with {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, but got no love from the {4-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{A-Clubs} run out that saw Bartolotta river an ace to double through.

The Leader Board

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Here's how the leader board looks now into Level 13:

Final Break

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

The remaining players have been sent off on a 10-minute break with 12 full levels now in the books. They will return to play two more half hour levels before bagging and tagging.

In the meantime, the event's second starting flight is set to go a little over a half hour from now.

McLean Cools Off Kiehl

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Bob Kiehl and Paul McLean suddenly get it all in on a flop full of blanks with Kiehl on {q-}{q-} and McLean holding {A-}{A-}.

The blanks continue on the turn and river and McLean and Kiehl essentially swap spots on the leader board after the aces hold.
