Sheldon Grove had re-entered to the same table he had busted from and was now playing on the outer tables after the line-up for the live stream had switched during the break. He took on Bernard Gossard and called the shove of the French player, with both players hesitating to show their cards.
"I called you," Grove insisted and wanted Gossard to flip em over first.
Bernard Gossard: J♠J♣
Sheldon Grove: A♦Q♥
"I take an ace or queen," Grove said. The 9♥9♦9♠ flop added a nine to his outs, but he already hit the A♣ turn. Nothing changed with the 4♠ river and Gossard was eliminated for now.
The Day 1b field is nearing three digits with now up to 90 entries involved, of which 76 players remain. No longer among them is Hennie Appel after he sent his short stack in with the A♥Q♥ on a board of 10♦4♠2♦8♦3♦. Fourie was not willing to let go of 8♥5♥ for a turned pair of eights and dealt the final blow.
New on the table are Adam Gamsy and David Ng, the latter of which re-entered into the very same seat he had busted from.
Lee Thaver had entered not long ago and took on Matt Mulhall in a duel big blind versus button. Mulhall led the 9♣8♠2♥ flop and earned a call to then bet the 6♠ turn for 2,300. Mulhall muscled his big stack and made it 8,800 to go this time, which won the pot uncontested.
Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the 21st episode, Connor speaks with Survivor legend Boston Rob, aka Rob Mariano, about growing up near Fenway Park, learning poker at the age of 6, studying psychology at Boston University, applying for Survivor and winning Season 22, his recent appearance on Deal or No Deal Island and filming an upcoming season of The Traitors.
Boston Rob also revealed a story about Costa Rican authorities raiding a mansion known to host high-stakes poker games during a 2006 filming that included Daniel Negreanu, Josh Arieh, David Williams, Michael Mizrachi and actress Cheryl Hines.
"(Gambling mogul) Calvin (Ayre) had a big party at the house, and they came in guns drawn," he said. "And we were fine, but we all had to stay at the party until they checked our passports and everything. I think it was a little bit of a shakedown. But we had a good weekend."
Four ways to the Q♦Q♣4♠10♦ turn, Jacobus de Nysschen bet 1,200 and Bradley Moore called, Gavin Sardini raised to 3,700. That forced out Cliton Taliwanth, while de Nysschen and Moore called.
De Nysschen led the 9♦ river for 13,000 and Moore called while Sardini folded.
De Nysschen showed his Q♥9♠ for a full house and Moore mucked 6♦5♦ for a rivered flush.
Four ways to the K♠Q♠5♦ flop, the action checked to Leesha Hira and she bet 1,200 to receive three callers. On the A♦ turn, it checked to Hanno Fourie who then bet 2,600. Only Beat Schlegel called this time and Fourie then bet the 10♥ river for 7,000, Schlegel snap-folded.
Despite this setback, Schlegel has a decent stack on the second bullet for the day.
Apparently, Jaco Mouton got it in blind with the 9♠8♠ and was up against one opponent with the []AsJd], while Imran Bhojani folded. The board ran out K♦8♣8♥10♣4♠ and Mouton flopped trips to more than double.
A massive pot was brewing over on table 18 with button raiser SM taking on David Ng out of the big blind. Nearly 40,000 were in the middle to the 5♦4♠3♠5♠6♣ river on which Ng pushed all-in for 22,600.
SM asked for a count and eventually called to get shown A♣3♦, revealed by Ng with his head shaking. SM flipped over his 8♥7♣ and that left Ng puzzled. The player from Mauritius then explained that he had check-raised the flop and turn for what appeared to be small increases.
