Akinussi Forces Out Hoal

Level 7 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Jonathan Hoal raised to 3,000 from under the gun and Tim Akinnusi three-bet to 15,000 two seats over, which Hoal called. On the [3h2h2d| flop, Hoal check-called for 30,000 and checked in the dark to the 9 turn.

Akinnusi now bet 45,000 and Hoal sighed. "The tens are holding strong, eh?" he said before folding.

No Call for Nortje

Level 7 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

On the river of a K9492 board, Cliton Taliwanth checked and Marko Nortje fired a pot-sized bet of 32,000.

"Do you have kings?" Taliwanth inquired and his shot clock ran down to almost zero before he announced the fold.

They both teased each other to show cards and eventually settled on revealing one. Taliwanth exposed the 10 and Nortje's 10 was picked by his opponent.

The action after the dinner break has been timid once again with some 86 entries and 59 players remaining.

Didier Mery
Didier Mery

Following the 542 flop, Didier Mery check-called a bet of 5,000 by Andrew Smith and then checked the 2 on the turn. Smith bet another 10,000 for Mery to then check-raise to 25,000. Smith called and also instantly called the shove by the French player on the 9 river.

Mery tabled his KQ and was on his way out already, while Smith claimed the pot with the KK.

"That was a gift for you," Beat Schlegel mentioned in the table chat.

The final three levels of the day will be streamed and Rajeev Poonhath is among those who have taken a seat. Not all players returned to their seats in time but the cards are back in the air already while a satellite for the third and final flight is also running.

Among those in there: Hanre Retief. "Kings into aces preflop, I am not good enough to fold kings," he said. Divan Van Wyk was the one to claim the chips and join the big stacks.

Day 1c is also scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. local time with a 40-minute clock, though the start may be slightly delayed.

The third and final day of the ZAR 50,000 High Roller brought back nine players out of 72 entries and each of them was secured a portion of the ZAR 3,024,000 ($175,392) prize pool already after the bubble had burst last night.

Sascha Manns started the final table second in chips but bowed out in seventh place. The only other finalist from outside of South Africa was Dean Hutchison, who had pocket aces cracked by ace-queen preflop, among others, to eventually bow out in fifth place. Soon after that, the final four players agreed to deal numbers and the action continued with the battle for the winner's trophy.

Darren Kramer was the chip leader when the deal was cut but had to settle for third place. Bradley Moore eventually defeated Jonathan Woolley in heads-up to claim the trophy and then jumped into Day 1b of the Main Event shortly after.
