Guarantee Crushed

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

With 172 entries so far on Day 1b, that puts total entries close to 300, crushing the $200,000 guarantee put on this event. With one full day to go, the prize pool just may creep near $500,000.

Looking for the Flush, Settling for the Straight

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We missed the action, but were able to reconstruct part of the hand thanks to video from our MSPT partners. After a flop of {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, Jerry Holderman was facing a bet of 7,000 from his opponent and he would move all in for 11,100 total. His opponent made the call with {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and Holderman tabled {j-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

The flush didn't come for Holderman, but the {4-Spades} turn and {8-Spades} river were good enough to crack his opponents kings with a runner-runner straight.

Eklund Takes One Out

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We caught the action with one player all in for 3,850 and he had to fade a lot as three players called to see a flop of {3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}. Brian Eklund led out for 12,000 and the other two opponents folded.

Eklund: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

Opponent: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The case queen didn't come though, as the board ran out {10-Spades}{8-Spades}, sending Eklund's opponent to the rail.

Fire Up the Chainsaw

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Allen Kessler is a late entry, but he will still be entering play with over 60 big blinds. His structure should allow for plenty of play, however as he will try to grind his way through the day's remaining 9 1/2 levels.

Ali With the Rope-A-Dope

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We picked up the action after a flop of {j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{10-Spades} and after a bet of 1,200, Sunny Ali raised to 6,000 from the button and the player in the big blind made the call. The original bettor moved out of the way and the {2-Diamonds} fell on the turn. The player from the big blind quickly announced all in and Ali just as quickly made the call.

"Top two," Ali exclaimed. "I'm on a draw," said his opponent, tabling {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}. The river {3-Spades} kept Ali afloat and he took the pot with {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.
