For the first time ever the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) is visiting Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Last month the luxurious property opened a new 381-room, 19-story hotel, which came just in time to host players for what is expected to be the largest turnout for a major poker tour in Wisconsin. The current state record for a buy-in of $1,100+ is 393 entries, which was set back in March when the MSPT visited Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells.
“We’re excited to be heading to Potawatomi Hotel Casino for the first time,” MSPT owner and operator Bryan Mileski said leading up to the event. “The venue is among the best in the state, and with a brand new hotel, Potawatomi is the perfect place for a premiere poker tournament. It should be a fun weekend.”
Likewise, Jeff Gemini, Poker Room Manager at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, echoed those sentiments: "Players are very excited. Our satellite tournaments have been very successful up to this point and players can’t wait for the main event weekend to see the crowd and amount of players that will be here playing."
Numbers have been strong for both the $65 and $250 qualifiers, with Gemini guesstimating that around 100 players had already qualified for the Main Event as of Thursday night. The conveniently located MSPT Potawatomi, which is just minutes from General Mitchell International Airport, is expected to draw extensively from the Wisconsin poker market, as well as nearby Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota. Some players that have been spotted on property and are expected to play include online poker pro Brandon “oncommand” Meyers, World Series of Poker Circuit ring winner Chad Graves, MSPT FireKeepers champ Jason Zarlenga, an MSPT regular Adam Lamphere, who place finished runner-up two consecutive times at FireKeepers in Michigan.
The Main event will be held over three days beginning tonight at 4 p.m., which is about an hour from now. Saturday's Day 1b will also start at 4 p.m. and play 14 levels. Players who advance from Day 1a are not eligible to play in Day 1b, but those who who fail to survive tonight are welcome to reenter tomorrow. Likewise, players are allowed one reentry if they bust within the first nine levels, which is also the late registration period. The remaining players from each flight will combine on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and play until a champion is crowned. The Main Event final table will be broadcast live (15-minute delay) worldwide using RFID technology allowing all viewers to see the hole cards.
Cards will be in the air shortly, so stay tuned for all the high-flying action from Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in downtown Milwaukee!
