Pupillo Not Rewarded After Sniffing Out Trick

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Nick Pupillo
Nick Pupillo

A player under the gun opened to 4,600 in early position and got one call. Nick Pupillo three-bet to 16,600 on the button, and the small blind, Daniel Fisher, jammed it in for about 60,000. The first two players folded.

"Good fold," Fisher said. "I had aces."

Pupillo, though, hadn't acted.

"How do you not know I'm in the hand?" he wondered suspiciously. "Pull the 16,600 in."

It was 43,800 more to Pupillo, and he slid forward a call after another 90 seconds or so.

"Ace-king," Greg Himmelbrand said with a laugh. "I could have walked away, I knew he had ace-king."

Pupillo was indeed racing with sevens against {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, and the {j-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop was a safe one for the Mid-States Poker Tour team pro. A {k-Clubs} turn doomed him, though.

Fisher received a one-round penalty for talking about his hand. Pupillo busted his last 30,000 or so just after the break.

Albert Doubles Through Himmelbrand

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Cynthia Albert
Cynthia Albert

Greg Himmelbrand bet 3,600 on an {8-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop but Cynthia Albert popped it to 10,000. Himmelbrand thought awhile and dropped in 28,000 or so, sticking out his tongue as if disgusted and calling when Albert jammed.

Himmelbrand: {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Albert: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

Himmelbrand had some outs, but the {k-Spades} turn and {4-Hearts} river didn't do it for him. He sent Albert 53,400.

Himmelbrand Eliminates Alabsi

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Emad Alabsi
Emad Alabsi

Greg Himmelbrand opened for 2,600 and got a call from the cutoff before Emad Alabsi made it 6,700 to go. Himmelbrand came back with 12,600, and the squeezed player dumped his hand. Alabsi dropped in roughly 25,000, and Himmelbrand immediately shoved. Alabsi called it off with {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and saw the bad news: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}.

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Spades}, keeping the kings best.

"That's what they call running good," said Alabsi, who explained he thought Himmelbrand might try to bluff him having already seen him lay down ace-king. "Everything's working his way."

"I'm a Cold-Blooded Predator"

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We found Emad Alabsi considering the shove of an opponent in the cutoff for 33,100. Alabsi had opened for 2,500 in the hijack, and he said a few inaudible sentences to his opponent, who remained silent. The dealer asked if he was talking to himself, making sure he wasn't talking about his hand.

"Yes, I'm talking to myself," Alabsi said. "I'm studying my prey. I'm a cold-blooded predator."

That got a laugh out of Alabsi's neighbor. Alabsi continued tanking for a few minutes before mucking {a-}{k-} face-up, saying he didn't need to gamble.

Seivright Loses a Flip

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

After a raise to 2,400 and a call, Owen Seivright made it 7,200. A player in the blinds jammed for about double that, and Seivright called after the other players mucked.

Seivright: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

The race went to Seivright's opponent as the board came {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds}.

Truman Runs the Nuts

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

A player was all in for 13,400 at Table 31 and got called by Michael Truman in the small blind.

Truman: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

The flop came {6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Spades}, little for Truman. The {j-Diamonds} turn meant Truman's opponent didn't want a set, but that's exactly what he found on the {10-Spades} river.
