Sargent Rides Cowboy's for Double

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Barbara Sargent opened for 1,400 from middle position and the player sitting to her left three-bet to 3,500. Action on the table folded back around to Sargent who four-bet to 15,000 and was called by her opponent.

Sargent tossed her last 1,200 in the middle before the {4-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop hit the felt and her opponent called.

Barbara Sargent: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Sargent flopped top-set leaving her opponent drawing to running cards and the {3-Clubs} turn gave her a sweat as it gave her opponent the wheel draw.

Sargent needed to dodge a deuce and did as the river fell the {q-Spades} securing her double up.

MSPT Season 11 to Kick Off with 2020 Cleveland Poker Open Jan. 16-19

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
JACK Cleveland Casino
JACK Cleveland Casino

As 2019 nears an end, it’s time to look ahead to the MSPT’s 11th Season, which will kick off with a $1,110 buy-in, $300K GTD Main Event at JACK Cleveland Casino in Cleveland, Ohio. PokerNews will be there to live report the Main Event.

The 2020 MSPT Cleveland Poker Open – a 21 or older event – will take place January 16-19 and will be preceded by a series of $70, $145 and $265 satellites where every single satellite boasts a 10-seat guarantee! The stop will mark the MSPT’s 164th Main Event and the fourth ever at JACK Cleveland Casino.

Click here for a look at the full schedule.

In 2018, the inaugural MSPT Cleveland Poker Open attracted 581 entrants and saw Abdul “Dulie” Amer, a good friend of poker pros Adam Friedman and Nick Guagenti, capture the title and $118,350 first-place prize.

The MSPT Season 10 Cleveland Poker Open last January drew 725 entries creating a $703,250 total prize pool, which made it by far the largest major poker tournament ($1K+ buy-in) in Cleveland’s history, breaking our own record from the previous year. In the end, it was Sean Munjal of Ann Arbor, Michigan, who navigated the field to take down a $140,654 first-place prize.

The property, which is open 24/7, is a 300,000-square-foot complex – 96,000 square feet are dedicated to gaming including slot machines, table games, and poker – the property is located inside the historic Higbee Building on Public Square, which is adjacent to the city’s entertainment district.

The casino, which is within minutes of Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse (Cavaliers), Progressive Stadium (Indians), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and FirstEnergy Stadium (Browns), offers 1,600 slots with denominations from 1 cent all the way up to $500 per spin, as well as nearly 100 table games including Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, and several poker variants. In addition, poker players can grind it out in the 30-table poker room, which hosts games (hold’em, Omaha, 7-Card Stud, and Razz are all offered) around the clock.

Season 10 MSPT Player of the Year Sends One Home

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Mike Shin
Mike Shin

There was heads-up action after a {3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop between Mike Shin on the button and the big blind player.

Action was checked to Shin who fired out 2,500 into a 6,000 pot. Shin's opponent raised all in for 15,300 and was called.

Mike Shin: {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Opponent: {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}

Both players flopped top-pair but Shin held the better kicker with his ace.

The turn paired the board with the {4-Diamonds} and Shin needed to dodge any nine to eliminate his opponent.

Shin did just that as the river fell the {8-Clubs} and the Season 10 MSPT Player of the Year sent his opponent out the door.

Nines Hold for Vizza; Eliminates Opponent

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

After an initial 4,000 raise, five players saw a {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop. Action was checked to a player in middle position who moved all in for 24,500 and Sam Vizza came over the top from the cutoff getting isolation.

Sam Vizza: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

Vizza's opponent flopped top-pair but was still trailing his made hand of nines.

The turn came the {5-Diamonds} and Vizza eliminated his opponent after the {10-Diamonds} river completed the board.

Cooler Flop Allows Arora to Double Through Simmons

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Bruce Simmons
Bruce Simmons

We missed the action unfold but we do know that there was around 5,000 in the middle and action exploded on a {j-Spades}{a-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop between Bruce Simmons in middle position and former MSPT champ Luke Arora in the cutoff. The latter wound up all in for 32,600 and the hands were on their backs.

Bruce Simmons: {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Luke Arora: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Both players had flopped two pair but Arora had the best of it. Neither the {2-Hearts} turn nor {9-Diamonds} river changed a thing and Arora doubled through Simmons.

"Good Fold"

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante

Steve Belland raised to 1,200 from early position only to have Dennis Stevermer three-bet to 5,500 from the hijack. Action folded back to Belland and he called to see the {4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop.

Belland checked and Stevermer bet 7,500. That did the trick as Belland released his hand.

"Good fold," Stevermer offered before pulling in the pot.
