Huynh Doesn't Believe the Lead

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Anthony Huynh
Anthony Huynh

Stephen Damicus opened the action with a raise to 900 in middle position. Anthony Huynh was in the hijack and three-bet to 2,200. Damicus called and action went heads up to a flop of {3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades}. Damicus checked and Huynh made a continuation-bet of 3,600. Damicus called.

The turn was {a-Spades} and Damicus led out for 2,500. Huynh quickly put in a raise to 8,000 and Damicus thought for a few moments and sent his cards to the muck.

Martz Picks off Verbeck

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Joel Verbeck was in the hijack and opened the action with a raise to 500. Phil Kiphardt called in the cutoff, as did the players on the button and in the small blind. Daryl Martz was in the big blind and defended to take action five ways to the streets.

The flop dropped {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{j-Hearts} and action checked to Verbeck, who made a continuation-bet of 1,200. Kiphardt called, the players on the button and in the small blind folded, and then Martz threw in a call.

Action was then three handed as the turn came {5-Diamonds}. Martz checked to Verbeck, who fired a second barrel of 2,100. Kiphardt quickly sent his cards to the muck and then Martz called once more, taking action heads up to the river {3-Hearts}. Martz checked again and Verbeck emptied the clip, putting in a third barrel for 3,600. Martz called.

Verbeck shrugged as he tabled {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for pure air and Martz tabled {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} to take down the pot with his top pair.

Wilkie Joins the Party

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Steve Wilkie, November 2019 MSPT Golden Gates Champion
Steve Wilkie, November 2019 MSPT Golden Gates Champion

Steve WIlkie has just been spotted at one of the most recently-opened tables in the Golden Gates Poker Parlour with a usual smile on his face. The English native and Arvada resident spent the second half of 2019 on an absolute tear, chopping the Colorado Poker Championship $1,100 Main Event heads up for $60,114 in August and then following it up with an outright victory at the $1,100 MSPT Main Event, also here at Golden Gates in November for a first-place prize of $85,149.

From there, Wilkie made his way up to Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN for the 2019 MSPT Season Finale and proceeded to finish in fourth place for another payday of $51,944. He hopes to pick up right where he left off at the end of last year.

Newton Gets a Dub

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante

David Newton limped in from middle position and saw the cutoff limp in behind him. The player on the button then raised it up to 1,600 and received a call from the small blind. Newton then limp-shoved all in for his last 8,000 or so, and received only a call from the small blind.

David Newton: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Small Blind: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The two were off to the races with Newton slightly out in front going to the flop. He pulled ahead and saw his hand remain best the whole way as the board ran out {8-Spades}{10-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts} to earn him the double.

Wilkie Doubles Back Near Starting Stack

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Steve Wilkie
Steve Wilkie

There was 6,500 in the middle with three-way action between Steve Wilkie in the big blind as well as the players in the cutoff and on the button. Action was on the flop with the board reading {9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Wilkie checked to the cutoff, who bet 3,300. The player on the button folded and Wilkie called, taking action heads up to the turn {k-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

The dealer burned and turned the river {7-Spades} and Wilkie flung in a T5,000 chip. The dealer threw out a red all-in button, signifying that was the last of his cihps, and his opponent thought for a few seconds before tossing in a chip to call.

Wilkie tabled {q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for trip sevens and his opponent turned over his hand with only the {a-Diamonds} visible. The dealer grabbed the hand and looked quickly at the second card before mucking the hand and shipping the pot Wilkie's way.

Newton Doubles Again

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

All of the chips got into the middle on a flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Spades} with action between Michael Rankins, who was under the gun, and David Newton in early position. Rankins covered.

Michael Rankins: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
David Newton: {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Both players hit the flop hard and Rankins found his top two pair up against Newton's straight, putting Newton in great shape for another double. He needed to fade Rankins' outs to a full house and did just that as the turn {7-Diamonds} and river {4-Spades} completed the runout.
