Helstern Flops the Nuts and Wins a Small Pot

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Jorden Helstern
Jorden Helstern

Ryan Phan was in the cutoff and raised to 3,000. He received a call from Jorden Helstern, who defended his big blind to take action heads up to a flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Helstern led out, betting 4,000, and Phan called.

Both players checked the turn {2-Hearts} and the river came {q-Diamonds}. Helstern reached for chips and went to bet 1,000 before realizing that such an amount would not work. He pulled his hand back and grabbed 200 more to make a minimum-bet of 1,200. Phan quickly called.

Helstern showed {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for a straight and earned the pot, making a light gesture to Phan with his hands that mimicked pushing a stack of chips all in as if he wished Phan had shoved on him. Nonetheless, Helstern now finds himself back over 80,000 after dipping below the starting stack for a bit of time earlier in the evening.

Bobrosky Sent To the Showers

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

There was around 8,000 in the middle from preflop action with three players having gone to a flop of {2-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. Action checked to Anthony Pitesa in middle position and he bet 4,000. Josh Bobrosky called on the button and a fold came behind, taking action heads up to the turn {8-Spades}. Pitesa dropped in a pile of chips that was more than enough to put Bobrosky all in, and Bobrosky quickly called.

Josh Bobrosky: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Anthony Pitesa: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Pitesa's turned backdoor gutshot straight draw had given him four more outs to crack Bobroskys kings and send him to the rail, and the river {9-Spades} filled up the draw to do just that. Bobrosky's elimination all but confirms he will be taking his stack of just 5,000 into Sunday's Day 2 after failing to bag a bigger stack than his Day 1a total.

Zedo Takes One Without Showdown

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Corey Zedo opened the action with a raise to 2,500 in middle position and received calls from Eric Wong in the hijack and Nipun Java, who defended his big blind. The flop came {4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and both Java and Zedo checked. Wong bet 2,500 and got a quick fold from Java before Zedo put out chips to match.

Action checked through the turn {2-Hearts} and the river came {6-Diamonds}. Zedo sat for a second and then reached for chips, betting 3,000.

Wong thought for about 20 seconds, looked back at his cards, and then sent them to the center of the table to earn Zedo the pot without showdown.
