Novin Chips Up Without a Showdown

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Ali Novin
Ali Novin

Ali Novin and Anthony Thompson were heads up looking at a board of {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. About 22,000 sat in the middle.

Novin was out of position and first to act, and he decided to fire 15,000. Anthony Thompson thought for a bit before letting his cards go.

Novin has built one of the bigger stacks in the room about halfway through the day.

Johnson Wins With the Ladies

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

And under-the-gun player raised to 1,800 before Russell Johnson bumped it up to 3,800 from middle position. Action folded back to the opener who made the call.

The flop showed up {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Spades} and under the gun checked in flow. Johnson continued for 3,300. His opponent check-raised to 6,500. Johnson fairly quickly three-bet the flop to 19,500.

"You got aces or kings?" chuckled his opponent. Johnson let out a little laugh.

Eventually, his opponent did fold, showing {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Johnson showed in kind, revealing {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for the overpair.

Wolcyn Puts the Pressure On

Two players were heads up with a board of {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} showing. About 5,000 was in the middle.

Clint Wolcyn checked from the big blind and his opponent bet 3,300 from under the gun. Wolcyn went for the check-raise up to 8,500. His opponent called.

The turn brought the {6-Diamonds} and Wolcyn followed up with a bet of 10,000. After some thought, his opponent let it go and Wolcyn took down the pot.

Truong Flops a Straight

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Action began on the river with Brian Truong moving all in from the hijack. The board showed {9-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}.

There was about 23,000 in the pot, and Truong's opponent was the effective stack with about 14,000 behind.

"I'm trying to decide if you have a straight or not," said Truong's opponent. "I just have top pair, I don't know if I want to put all my money in with top pair. On the other hand, I was already going to rebuy multiple times." His opponent talked himself into a call.

"I've got a jack," said Truong, showing {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for the flopped straight to take down the pot.

Johnson Gets Value With a Full House

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

Action began on the flop of a heads-up pot with Tyree Johnson on the button. The board showed {7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}.

The cutoff player checked and Johnson bet 2,100 into the pot of about 4,800. His opponent called the bet.

The turn put a third nine out there, the {9-Diamonds}. Again, Johnson saw his opponent check-call a bet, this time 2,500.

On the inconsequential {3-Diamonds} river, the cutoff checked one final time and Johnson emptied the clip with a bet of 5,000. After some thought, his opponent made the call.

Johnson turned over {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for the full house, good enough for the winner.

Colson Leaves Wazwaz Flabbergasted

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Dan Schmidt opened from middle position to 1,600 and Rodney Colson called on his left. In late position, Rob Wazwaz three-bet 5,500. Both Schmidt and Colson made the call.

The flop showed up {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and action checked to Wazwaz. He continued for 6,500. Schmidt folded and action was on Colson. He thought for a while before moving all in, about 15,000 effective in Wazwaz's stack.

"Ugh, I can't fold," said Wazwaz as he made the call.

"Just a ten," said Colson.

Rob Wazwaz: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}
Rodney Colson: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Wazwaz looked in good shape to double up, and the turn {j-Clubs} kept him in the lead. However, the river {10-Clubs} gave Colson trips and sent left Wazwaz chipless.
