The Rare (and Unsuccessful) Check-Bet

Level 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

On a turn board of {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, the small blind player check-raised to 4,200 after a bet of 2,200 from Travis Miller in the cutoff.

Miller made the call, and the two went to the river {2-Diamonds} which saw a check from the small blind.

Puzzled by this line, Miller decided to just check behind, but then the small blind announced a bet of 10,000 and threw out chips, causing an uproar at the table.

The dealer took control of the situation and explained that he could not bet once both players have checked and instructed the players to flop over their cards.

The small blind tossed in his cards face-up to show {q-Clubs}{j-Spades} for deuces with queen high while Miller rolled over {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} for two-pair, aces and deuces.

"Nevermind I call!" Miller joked as he was pushed the pot.

Aoki Gets Value on River

Level 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

After the small blind put out 2,200, Mikiyo Aoki on the button re-raised to 5,200.

The small blind made the call and the two went heads-up to a flop of {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} where Aoki continued for 1,700 and her opponent called.

The turn came the {6-Clubs} and both players decided to check t the {4-Spades}river.

After it checker to her, Aoki fired again for 5,000 and the small blind quickly called, but was then shown {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} by Aoki for top pair.

The small blind nodded and mucked his hand as the pot was pushed to Aoki

Wells Smacks River

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

On a flop of {4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, big blind Adam Welk led out for 400 into the pot of around 1,200, and under-the-gun Rick Wells made the call.

The turn came the {9-Hearts} and Welk continued for 600 and was called by Wells to see the river {10-Clubs}.

Welk fired again for 600 but then Wells raised him to 1,200. Welk made the call and showed {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for top pair but was shown the bad news when Wells rolled over {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for a rivered set of tens to take the pot.

About Silverado-Franklin

The Silverado-Franklin Hotel & Gaming Complex offers more than 360 different slot machines, Deadwood’s largest table games area (Caribbean Stud, 4-Card Poker, Let It Ride, and 3-Card Poker all with a $1,000 betting limit), and a poker room. In addition, there is great food and drink options at Legends Steakhouse, Silverado Grand Buffet, and the Veranda, which offers unique views of historic Mount Moriah Cemetery, White Rocks, and the town of Deadwood.

When Deadwood legalized gaming in 1989, the Franklin didn't get a major retrofit until the owners of the neighboring Silverado Gaming Establishment purchased the hotel and embarked on an ambitious remodeling project in 2005 that opened up the main ballroom, added a premier casino, and enhanced the overall experience for guests.

The renovated first floor reopened in June 2007, sporting a refinished tin ceiling, restored woodwork, and fluted columns that match early photographs of the hotel lobby. Elaborate chandeliers, colored glass, and gilded fixtures accent the entire level. A restoration project was recently completed that restored the original parapet and flag pole, built from matching cast stone, brick, and fiberglass.

Deadwood is known for many things but for poker players, it's perhaps best known for aces and eights, otherwise known as the Deadman’s Hand. In 1876, Wild Bill Hickok held that hand in a game of poker at a saloon just a few blocks from the present-day Silverado when he was shot by Jack McCall.

Another exciting chapter for poker in Deadwood is about to be written, and PokerNews will be right here documenting every step of the way, so stay tuned!
