Cunniff Flushed Out But Fires Again

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

After telling PokerNews that he'd lost a big hand in a flush-over-flush situation, Gerald Cunniff moved all in from the big blind for a little under 4,000. He was then called by John Tieszen and one other player.

The flop came out {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Tieszen bet 400 into the roughly 10,000 pot and his opponent got out of the way. The cards were then tabled, with Cunniff at risk.

Gerald Cunniff: {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}
John Tieszen: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Cunniff could still hit a non-heart king or jack, but the turn {5-Hearts} was the dagger and it left him drawing dead as the board completed with the {2-Hearts}.

Cunniff was not going to give up that easily, however, as he headed straight to the registration desk to re-buy.

Flopped Nuts Holds Up for Gruene

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

On a completed board of {10-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, the action was on Joe Gruene who bet out 3,400 into the pot of around 5,000.

His opponent to his left then quickly made the call and was shown {a-Spades}{q-Spades} by Gruene for a flopped ace-high flush, which was apparently good enough as his opponent quickly folded and Gruene was pushed the pot.

Unfortunate Run for Dollar

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

After losing a big pot the previous hand, Cameron dollar got it all in preflop against Klint Davis, putting himself at risk.

Cameron Dollar: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Klint Davis: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}

Dollar needed some help to catch up to Davis' aces, but the board did not provide as the runout of {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades} sent him to the rail as the first bustout of the day.

The second of two opening flights of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Deadwood Shootout takes place at 3 p.m. MT from the historic Silverado-Franklin Hotel and Gaming Complex in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Players in this flight will be targeting Aaron Raap’s 570,000 chip stack which led Day 1a. Joshua Reichard, Josh Evans, and Justin Barnum are among those who also bagged healthy stacks to bring into Sunday.
