MSPT Heads Back to Iowa's Riverside Casino July 23-25

Level 11 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Season 12 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) continues next month with the tour’s second-ever visit to Riverside Casino. PokerNews will be on-site to provide live updates.

For the second time this year, the MSPT is headed to Riverside Casino & Golf Resort in Riverside, Iowa from July 23-25 for the $1,110 buy-in, $200K GTD 2021 Iowa State Poker Championship.

A series of $70 and $260 satellites, which will begin in early July, will feed into the Main Event. That tournament will feature two starting flights starting with Day 1a at 3 p.m. local time on Friday, July 23. Day 1b will take place at the same time on Saturday, July 24, while the surviving players from both flights will return at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 25 to play down to a winner.

The Main Event, which will be live reported by PokerNews, will start players with 25,000 in chips and play 40-minute levels.

The MSPT first visited Riverside Casino back in March when it attracted a state record 862 entries. 27-year-old Daniel Sepiol emerged victorious in that tournament to claim a career-high score of $162,750.

"I've played a lot of these tournaments and made some deep runs but never really made runs at the final table," he said after the win. "So, it feels good."

July's edition is expected to be another large affair, so don't hesitate in making your plans today.

Jaka's Chips Get Dispersed

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Faraz Jaka opened to 2,500 from early position and two players directly behind him called. Action then folded to the cutoff, who went all in for 21,500. It was then folded to the small blind, who called all-in for about 20,000. Jaka also called and the other two players folded.

Jaka: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}
Cutoff: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Small blind: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The runout came {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and the small blind collected the main pot while the cutoff collected a small side pot.

Moreno Calls Down

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Andrew Moreno opened to 2,500 from the lojack and was called by both players in the hijack and cutoff. Action then folded to the player in the small blind, who squeezed to 10,500. Only Moreno called.

Moreno's opponent continued for 7,500 on the {k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop and Moreno called.

The {8-Hearts} fell on the turn and the player in the small fired 15,000 into the middle. Moreno again called.

Both players checked on the {8-Clubs} river and Moreno's opponent tabled {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}. Moreno showed {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} and scooped the pot with his two pair.

Smith Finishes Kessler Off

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Allen Kessler shoved for his last 2,100 from under-the-gun and was called by Jerod Smith in the hijack and the player in the big blind.

The flop came {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and it was checked to Smith, who bet 2,500. His opponent quickly folded and hands were revealed.

Smith: {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Kessler: {7-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Kessler was drawing to runner-runner, and the {a-Hearts} turn left him drawing dead. A meaningless river fell and Smith took down the pot.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and action checked to Bensimhon, who continued for 2,500. Only the player on the button called.

The {k-Clubs} fell on the turn and Bensimhon fired for 4,200. His opponent again called.

The {4-Clubs} completed the board and Bensimhon fired a third and final time for 11,000. His opponent tank folded and Bensimhon scooped the pot.
