Adrian Mateos Eliminated in 8th ($79,000)

There's a gigantic obstacle to victory out the way of the remaining 7 players in the $15,000 NLH 8-Handed, after poker great Adrian Mateos was eliminated in 8th position.

Mateos moved all-in for his remaining 1,800,000, with only Victor Chong making the call.

Adrian Mateos: K♥J♥All in
Victor Chong: 8♣8♠

It was a classic race, and Chong could not look as the 9♠4♦3♠Q♣6♣ board ran out clean for his snowmen. Mateos graciously knuckled the table in defeat and the future Hall of Famer departed to the cash desk.

Entries Pass a Century in the $20k

Away from the excitement of the $15k final table briefly, a century of entries has been hit on Day 1 of the $20k NLH 8-Handed, with plenty of time left to register.

It's still early days here with play through Level 5, but Gytis Lazauninkas and Danilo Velasevic will be happy with their starts, building a nice lead over the rest of the field.

Elsewhere, we've spotted poker royalty in the room in the shape of Jean-Noel Thorel who is doing what he does best and grinding up a stack.

Kings Supreme For Theologis Again to Crack Binder's Aces

Alex Theologis
Alex Theologis

Alex Theologis has used kings to maximum advantage once again in the $15k, this time to crack the aces of Triton champion Bernhard Binder.

Punnat Punsri made it 160,000 from under the gun, Binder in middle position three-bet to 320,000, before Theologis in the big blind four-bet to 610,000. The reigning GPI Player of the Year Punsri got out the way, Binder shoved for his remaining 1,100,000, Theologis called and the cards were on their backs.

Alex Theologis: K♠K♦
Bernhard Binder: A♥A♣All in

Theologis needed help from the deck and he got it as the dealer fanned a K♥2♣7♥10♦3♦ runout to confirm the exit of one of the year's breakout stars in Binder.

Liu Qiang Stars on Triton Debut, Runs Into Theologis' Quads

Liu Qiang
Liu Qiang

A phenomenal Triton debut for Liu Qiang, who has bowed out in 17th place for $40,000 in the $15,000 NLH 8-Handed, outlasting the vast majority of a 206-entry field packed with some of the world's best players.

If it's any consolation for Qiang, there was no bad beat (albeit a nasty runout) behind his exit. He ran into the turned quads of Alex Theologis, who has now taken a commanding lead in the tournament.

The two shared a sporting fist bump as Qiang made his way to the rail, leaving just 16 players in contention. GG's sir.
