Day 1cd Completed
That’s a wrap on the starting flights for the Unibet DeepStack Open (UDSO) Marrakech Main Event inside Casino de Marrakech.
Day 1c brought a massive 380 entries, while the late-night turbo (Day 1d) added another 90 to the mix. That surge carried the total to a record-breaking 937 entries, the biggest Main Event field in UDSO Marrakech history!
From those final two flights, 95 players punched their tickets from Day 1c, while 23 survivors bagged chips in Day 1d. All told, the prize pool has soared to 4,960,800 MAD (approx. €467,581), with payouts to be confirmed on Day 2.
Sebastien Guinand was the only player to bag a seven-figure stack. In the final level of the night, he coolered Patrick Bornicke in a 1.2 million-chip pot. In a three-bet pot with both players more than 200 big blinds deep, Guinand flopped a set of jacks against Bornicke’s aces. The chips went in on the turn, and Guinand collected the spoils.
Abdou Zizi finished second in chips for the flight — and second overall — while Mehdi Senhaji also bagged strong, ending third in both Day 1c and the overall standings. Both Moroccans will be carrying plenty of chips into Day 2.
Day 1d belonged to Hassan Atigh of Mauritania, who finished as the flight’s chip leader. He secured the final elimination of the starting flights when his pocket nines held against Ordi Rostann’s king-nine, booking his place in the top ten overall.
Unibet ambassador Aurelie Reard also made it through Day 1d, ending with 175,000. She'll be joining her husband and fellow ambassador Alexandre Reard, who qualified in Day 1a. Another notable who made it over the first hurdle was Chris Dowling, who bagged 112,500.

Day 2 gets underway at 1 p.m. local time on Saturday, September 20, with the combined Day 1 fields bringing back 233 players. The goal will be to navigate through the money bubble and play down until just 16 players remain.
Action resumes at Level 12 with blinds at 1,000/2,500 and a 2,500 big blind ante.
As always, PokerNews will be on hand with live updates as the record-breaking field chases a spot in Monday’s finale.
On the Day 1d bubble where the blinds were 3,000/6,000, Hassan Atigh opened to 6,000 and was called by another player before Ordi Rostann moved all in for his last 47,000. Atigh called and the other opponent folded.
Ordi Rostann: K♦9♣
Hassan Atigh: 9♣9♦
The 10♥3♥4♠8♠3♠ flop kept the nines ahead and Rostann was the final Day 1 casualty.
With that, the night has come to a close. Full chip counts and recap to be available shortly.
As the players were sent on break, Marouane Tijani and Othman Mdidech were eliminated, meaning Day 1c has come to a close.
The 97 players have been sent on a 15-minute break. Play will close when there are two more bust outs.
The Day 1d field is also 5 players away from bagging.
The biggest hand of the festival just transpired in the dying embers of Day 1c, with two chip leaders clashing.
Sebastien Guinand opened to 5,000 from under the gun and called when Patrick Bornicke three-bet to 14,000.
Guinand check-raised to 50,000 over a bet of 15,000 on the J♠5♣4♥ flop, and Bornicke called as the tension started to brew.
Guinand fired out another 100,000 on the 7♦ turn and snap-called when Bornicke jammed for around 540,000. Guinand had Bornicke covered by a few chips.
Patrick Bornicke: A♥A♣
Sebastien Guinand: J♥J♣
Guinand's top set was ahead of the aces and the 3♥ river guaranteed the Frenchman a seven-figure stack heading into Day 2.
Isabel Baltazar limped in from under the gun, and the aciton folded to Mikhael Bakharev. He made it 10,000 from the cutoff. The button and the blinds got out of the way before Baltazar called.
The action checked to the river for the board to show 6♥5♣3♠Q♦A♦. Baltazar led out for 15,000 and the table started laughing when Bakharev didn't snap-call.
Kelevra announced that he'd be getting Bakhavrev's stack in the next five hands, while the latter mulled over his options. The clock was eventually called, and Bakharev failed to make a decision as the countdown hit zero and his hand was dead.
Just 36 of the 90 entries remain in the turbo flight. They're just 13 players away from bagging and tagging their stacks.
Meanwhile in Day 1c, there's 112 left and the day will end when 17 more players exit.
