Another action-packed day has come to an end at the US Poker Open as just six players remain in Event 3: $25,000 No Limit Hold'em. When the action resumes on Monday, February 5th, Daniel Negreanu will headline the final table that includes five other high-stakes pros.

The day seemed to fly by at a rapid pace as Negreanu and chip leader, Keith Tilston, eliminated players left, right, and center. Tilston started off the day on a high, holding the chip leading in the opening levels and never looking back. He managed to win a couple of important races and became the first player to reach the seven-figure chip mark.

Negreanu, on the other hand, was the first player eliminated and found himself at the registration desk re-entering before he knew it. At least this time, Negreanu had time to re-enter and spin up a stack, unlike that previous two events where he busted shortly after late registration closed. Negreanu won a couple hands here and there, but really shot up the leaderboard when he clashed in a big pot with Lauren Roberts. From there, it was smooth sailing for the Canadian poker pro who is now calling Las Vegas home.

Although Negreanu and Tilston are the only two players with over 1,000,000 chips, they will have four highly-skilled players chasing them. Jake Schindler proved he won't be intimidated as he continued to clash with Tilston throughout the ladder half of the day. After losing a key race and leaving himself with a short stack, Schindler battled back to finish the day in third place.

The day started out with 22 players taking to their seats for this first of four $25,000 buy-in event. It took awhile for players to start moving chips but when they did, the re-entries came fast and furiuos. By the time late registration was closed, there were a total of 44 entries making up a prizepool of $1,100,000. It was finalized that seven places would get paid with a min-cash worth $55,000 and the winner taking home a cool $374,000.

Justin Bonomo came into the day as the leader in the race for the overall US Poker Open Championship but he saw his hopes to increase his earnings diminish after falling to a red-hot Tilston. That leaves the door open for one of the final six players to take over the lead, should they win on Monday.

Some other notables to fall short of the money today include Ryan Riess, Brian Rast, Isaac Haxton, Adrian Mateos, David Peters, Bryn Kenney and Cary Katz. When the money bubble was reached with eight players remaining, there were a couple of short stacks remaining with Dan Shak being one of them. Playing four-handed on each table opened up the hand-ranges and it wouldn't take long for someone to bust. Unfortuantely for Shak, it happened to be him when he got all of his money in the middle with {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} against Negreanu's {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. The flop gave Negreanu a set and Shak was sent packing with nothing to show for.

That set up the unofficial final table of seven and it was in quick order that the next elimination occurred. Nick Schulman got all of his chips in the middle holding {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} but ran into the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} of Tilston. The board couldn't help Schulman come from behind and that left the remaining six players to bag up their chips for the day.

Nick Schulman opened to 25,000 from the cutoff and Keith Tilston three-bet to 80,000 from the small blind. Stephen Chidwick quickly folded his big blind and the action was back on Schulman. He four-bet jammed all in for around 320,000 and Tilston instantly called.

Keith Tilston: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Nick Schulman: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Schulman was at risk of bubbling the final table as he ran into another monster from Tilston. The board ran out {a-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Schulman was unable to come from behind, being eliminated in seventh place.

Dan Shak Eliminated on the Money Bubble

Level 15 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Dan Shak
Dan Shak

Daniel Negreanu pushed all in from the small blind and Dan Shak quickly called off his last 205,000 from the big blind. When the cards were tabled it was Shak who had the huge advantage.

Daniel Negreanu: {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}
Dan Shak: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The dealer fanned the flop of {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Negreanu spiked a two outer with a set of deuces. Shak would need one of the two remaining kings in the deck to stay alive. The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and the river brought the {6-Diamonds}. That brought an end to Shak's life and the unofficial final table was reached. Everyone remaining will be guaranteed at least $55,000.

Schindler Not Afraid

Level 15 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Keith Tilston limped in from the small blind and Jake Schindler raised to 45,000 out of the big blind. Tilston called and the flop came {q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}. Tilston check-called an initial bet of 40,000 from Schindler and the {j-Spades} hit the turn.

Tilston checked again and Schindler tossed in a bet of 125,000. Tilston stuck around to see the {3-Spades} on the river and checked one more time. Schindler sat with around 400,000 in front of him and announced all in, not afraid of the chip leader across the table. Tilston thought for his allotted 30 seconds and then gave his hand up.

Level 15 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

The action folded to Daniel Negreanu in the small blind who pushed all in. Dan Shak was in the big blind with just 172,000 chips left and made the call.

Dan Shak: {k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Daniel Negreanu: {q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Shak made a full house by the river to earn himself a double up.

The Money Bubble Pressure

Level 14 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Seth Davies limped in from the cutoff and Daniel Negreanu raised to 45,000 from the small blind. Dan Shak folded his big blind and Davies called to see a flop of {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}.

Negreanu led out for 27,000 and Davies continued to call rather quickly. The turn paired the board with the {3-Spades} and Negreanu fired another 40,000. Davies still called and the {9-Spades} completed the board. Negreanu reached back for a little extra this time, a bet of 275,000.

That sent Davies into the tank, as he looked behind him at the other table, checking out the other stacks. After using up a time extension, Davies took the cautious approach and mucked his cards.
