Sims Chipping Up

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Charles Sims had opened from early position and had been three-bet to 5,500 from the player on the button. He put out a four-bet to 12,700, basically putting an opponent to the test for the 10,000 or so he had behind. The player went into the tank for over a minute, counting his stack before deciding to fold.

Sims was then awarded the pot, bringing his stack over 75,000 along the way.

Alexander Rips It

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Four players limped in to see an {a-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop fall, and action checked to the button, who bet 1,000. Dejuante "DJ" Alexander check-raised to 3,000 from the small blind, and action folded back to the button, who quickly called.

Alexander gathered up his remaining 8,200 chips after the {6-Diamonds} fell on the turn and tossed them in the pot. The button folded, and Alexander chipped back closer to the starting stack.

Gonzales Not Scared By Aces

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

The dealer was in the process of pitching cards and sent a card out face-up in the process. The {a-Diamonds} was exposed and claimed to be the burn card as the hand proceeded. Adam Gonzales was in the cutoff and saw action fold to him. He opened to 1,000.

The big blind defended to take action heads up to a flop of {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, meaning two of the four aces in the deck had now been accounted for. The big blind led out for 1,000. Gonzales threw out a raise to 3,000 and received a call.

Both players checked the raised turn {5-Diamonds} and the river fell {5-Clubs}. The big blind checked once more, prompting Gonzales to throw out a bet of 5,000. After some time, he got a fold and the pot was sent his way.

Keeline Thinks He Wins, But...

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Ben Keeline in Day 1b action
Ben Keeline in Day 1b action

Five players invested 1,000 to see a {5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop together, and action checked through the flop, as well as the {2-Spades} on the turn.

The {7-Hearts} hit the river, and Ben Keeline bet 5,000 from the small blind. Only the big blind called, and Keeline rolled over {7-Spades}{5-Spades}. The big blind tabled {6-Spades}{4-Hearts} for the nuts, and Keeline inadvertently pulled his 5k chip back, before realizing his opponent had him beat.

"I was planning on winning the pot!" Keeline joked with his neighbor before tossing the chip back over to the big blind. "When you just called, I was like, sweet!"

Bailey Ups the Aggression

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

There was over 2,000 in the middle of the pot from folded hands with action still pending before the flop. The cutoff had 1,500 out in front of him and was facing a reraise to 4,500 from Billy Bailey, who was in the small blind. Eventually, he called.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and Bailey threw out a continuation-bet of 4,000. His opponent took about 10 seconds and proceeded to fold, resulting in Bailey winning the pot on the flop.

Smith Fades Elimination Versus Cloutier

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante

All of the chips were in the process of going in the middle on the turn in a hand between TJ Cloutier, who was in the hijack and Cory Smith, who was on the button. When the chips went in, Cloutier triumphantly slammed a stack of chips down.

The board read {10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{k-Hearts} with Smith's tournament life at stake.

TJ Cloutier: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Cory Smith: {k-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}

Smith found his two pair, kings and tens with a flush draw to be up against Cloutier's higher two pair of kings and queens. The river fell {10-Spades} and Cloutier's triumphant chip slam was followed by a closed-fisted smack of the table as he exclaimed a chop due to both players filling up to the same full house.

Smith chided back at Cloutier's disappointment with a bit of his own: "Where's my diamond at?!" he said as the dealer had split up the pot and sent both players their fair share.

Timmons Jams on Bala

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
[Removed:341] in Day 1b action
[Removed:341] in Day 1b action

[Removed:341], who was the unfortunate bubble boy in yesterday's Day 1a flight, limped in from early position, and a middle position player raised to 1,300. Jeremy Timmons three-bet to 4,000 on the button, and both Bala and the middle position player called.

Action checked through the {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} flop, and Bala bet 5,000 on the {8-Spades} turn. The middle position player folded, but Timmons flicked in a 5k chip to call.

Bala checked the {9-Clubs} river, and Timmons jammed for his last 11,800. Bala folded after a few moments thought.

Nguyen Unexpectedly Wins

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante

There was 3,800 in the pot as the dealer brought the turn on a board of {j-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{k-Hearts} and a player in early position bet 1,500. Khoa Nguyen was in middle position and clicked it back, raising to 3,000. His opponent called.

The river came {6-Clubs}. The early-position player checked and Nguyen thought for about 15 seconds before tapping the felt twice, cards in hand, to go to showdown. He looked over at his opponent, waiting to see what he had.

"Ace high," said Nguyen's opponent as he tabled {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Nguyen turned over {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, showing that his ten kicker was good despite the missed Broadway draw and had the pot sent his way.
