End of the Road for Song

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Erick Lindgren hit the nut flush with A10 on a board of 108526 and earned a full double through Stephen Song, who briefly exposed his cards.

Song was left with fewer than the starting stack and got them in with the 98 via open-shove.

Eduardo Bernal called in the cutoff with the QQ and dealt the final blow on a K924Q board.

Lu Brings the Pain to Spain

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Wei-Hsun Lu
Wei-Hsun Lu

Taiwan's Wei-Hsun Lu raised to 12,000 and Gonzalo Ranero three-bet jammed for 99,000 in the hijack. Fellow Spaniard Jon Santos then pushed all-in for 149,000 and Lu asked for a count on the larger stack. He then called half a minute later and they pushed them over.

Gonzalo Ranero: 99
Jon Santos: AK
Wei-Hsun Lu: QQ

The 885 flop and 6 turn kept Ranero and Santos with some equity. However, the 5 river kept Lu ahead and he sent both players from Spain to the rail.

Hutter Eliminated by Kubaliak

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Chino Rheem had recovered previous losses when he came up second-best with 1010 against the AK of Kelvin Kerber.

The same table included several other big names and Matas Cimbolas was trying to figure out the name of an opponent in the five seat. "My name is Igor. Igor Igor," the answer came.

Only one of those statements was true, as it happened to be Igor Picone from Belgium.

Picone called the shove of Barry Hutter for 28,000 and then saw Tomas Kubaliak move all-in over the top, forcing out Picone.

Barry Hutter: AQ
Tomas Kubaliak: KK

The 97378 board brought no help to Hutter and ended his run on Day 1a.

Jonkers Knocked Out by Sagle

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Mathijs Jonkers had stuck around with a shorter stack for an extended period and ultimately got the last of it in with the A4. That was crushed by Jason Sagle, who had the far superior suited ace holding the AK.

The board ran out K835K and that spelled the end for the Dutchman, a former WSOP Europe Main Event finalist.

Hunichen Gives Mandic Unwanted Action

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Chris Hunichen
Chris Hunichen

Goran Mandic moved all in from the cutoff for 210,000, an open-shove worth just over 26 big blinds.

"I don't want action" Mandic commented as Chris Hunichen contemplated his decision on the button.

"You just have fours?" Hunichen inquired, receiving no reply from Mandic. After roughly one minute Hunichen put in the call with a covering stack to put Mandic at risk.

Goran Mandic: AQ
Chris Hunichen: AK

Hunichen had Mandic pipped and remained ahead on the 7566J runout to send Mandic to the rail late in the day and drag in a massive pot.

A Pity for Pitavy

Level 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Emilien Pitavy open-jammed the button for 143,000 and Bruno Alava went all-in over the top out of the small blind. Szymon Bujok rubbed his hands before glancing at the cards but then instantly folded to forfeit his big blind.

Emilien Pitavy: 44
Bruno Alava: AK

The flip went to Alava on a board of AK8105 as Pitavy fell behind against the two overcards.
