Jean-Noel Thorel raised to 400,000 from middle position before Ye Wang made it 1,050,000 from the hijack. Adrian Mateos then four-bet shoved for 4,800,000 from the cutoff. The action folded back to Wang, who called as the bigger stack.

Mateos was on the wrong side of the preflop cooler, but had some hope after the K♠5♠8♦ flop. The 2♣ turn left Mateos drawing to two outs, and he exited in ninth place after the Q♠ river completed the board.

Padilha Surges to the Chip Lead

Pedro Padilha opened to 425,000 from the hijack with A♦Q♦ and was called by the big blind Aleksejs Ponakovs with 10♦9♠.

Padilha flopped the nuts on the K♦2♦3♦ board, and Ponakovs check-called a bet of 200,000.

The board paired on turn when the 3♣ came, and Ponakovs elected to lead out for a bet of 500,000, and Padilha just called.

On the river came the 8♥, and Ponakovs went for a massive over-bet bluff of 3,750,000, and Padilha thought for a moment before making the call to take the pot and jump into the chip lead.

Aleksejs Ponakovs raised to 400,000 from early position with A♠4♣, and was called by Manuel Fritz with 6♣5♣.

After the flop came 7♠8♥K♥ Ponakovs continued with a bet of 350,000, and Fritz called to see a turn with his open-ended straight draw, which brought the K♠.

Ponakovs then checked to Fritz, who bet out 800,000, which was enough to get Ponakovs to fold and give Fritz the pot.

Of all the accolades, special moments, and career-defining achievements that have already marked Alex Foxen as one of poker’s best players, last December at the final table of the $100,000 Triton Main Event stands out.

Foxen emerged victorious over a field of 182 of the game’s biggest stars, defeating Portuguese online legend Joao Vieira in a short heads-up match to win his third World Series of Poker bracelet and second Triton Series event in as many months.

“It’s up there with my favorite poker moments, for sure. To get the Triton Series trophy and WSOP bracelet at the same time, it’s unreal,” Foxen said after securing the title and $3,850,000 top prize.

Aleksejs Ponakovs 6♦5♦ raised to 500,000 from the button and Pedro Padilha 8♦7♦ called from the small blind.

The big stacks checked the action through to the river where the board read 3♣Q♠9♠A♠8♥. Padilha had the checkmark with a pair of eights, but he folded the better hand when Ponakovs fired 2,150,000 into a pot of 1,500,000.
