'raidan' Freezes 'The Iceman' -- or -- Teddy Monroe Eliminated in 16th Place ($51,114)

Teddy 'The Iceman' Monroe - 16th Place
Teddy 'The Iceman' Monroe - 16th Place
Teddy 'The Iceman" Monroe has just been eliminated from the main event by Danny 'raidan' Lu, earning a $51,114 payday for his efforts.

The word on the street is, Lu and Monroe got it all in preflop, Lu with pocket queens and Monroe with pocket nines. Dominated and in desperate need of help from the board to stay alive, Monroe was able to pick up a gutshot straight draw by the turn, but the river blanked out solidifying The Iceman's exit.

Teddy was treated to a nice round of applause from the audience as he exited the tournament area. Meanwhile, Lu stacked up right around 910,000 in chips with the win.

Youch

Blake Cahail and Peter 'Nordberg' Feldman exchanged preflop raises until Cahail found himself all in for approximately 410,000. Much to the amazement of the nearby rail, Feldman made the call holding {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs} but it turned out to be a great one, as Cahail could only produce {J-Clubs} {10-Hearts}.

Feldman held on to the lead through the turn as the board filled out {2-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {6-Hearts}, but the {9-Hearts} fell on river giving Cahail a heart flush. A subtle fist pump was Cahail's only reaction to the river card, which gave him new life with just under one million in chips. The hand left Feldman with right around 600,000 and likely, a very sour taste in his mouth.

Nick Schulman Eliminated in 17th Place ($51,114)

It didn't take long for the newly short-stacked Nick Schulman to get his chips in the middle. He moved in for 173,000 after Mike Sowers opened the preflop action with a raise. Sowers was the only caller.

Schulman: {A-Hearts} {4-Hearts}
Sowers: {6-Spades} {7-Spades}

Neither player hit the {Q-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} flop, but Sowers did make an up-and-down straight draw. The turn blanked {3-Diamonds}, but the river {10-Spades} made Sowers' straight and ended Schulman's tournament. He earned $51,114 for finishing in 17th place.

Schulman Crippled

Zach Hyman
Zach Hyman
We came to Nick Schulman's table to see him reraising Zach Hyman before the flop. The amount of the raise back to Hyman was 85,000. He called, then moved all in for 484,000 on a flop of {9-Clubs} {10-Spades} {A-Clubs}. There was roughly 330,000 in the middle already. Hyman promised Schulman that he would show if Schulman folded. Schulman knew Hyman didn't want the call. He thought it over for a minute and then called.

Hyman: {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}
Schulman: {4-Clubs} {5-Clubs}

Hyman made a pair of aces on the flop; Schulman showed a naked flush draw. It didn't hit on the {K-Hearts} turn or on the {7-Hearts} river. A pumped-up Hyman dragged a pot worth 1.3 million chips, leaving Schulman with just 176,000.

Monroe Acting Very Deliberately

Twice in the last half hour, players at Teddy Monroe's table have called the clock on him. First, he tanked for three minutes in the big blind facing an opening preflop raise from Payman Arjang. Cornel Andrew Cimpan finally said, "Nothing personal Teddy, but I'm gonna have to call a clock."

Monroe replied, "You do what you gotta do. But if you do that, we're done. You're dead to me. And I won't ever forget." Cimpan called the clock anyway, prompting Monroe to muck his hand.

More recently, Monroe and Arjang limped into a pot from the blinds. Both checked the {8-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {5-Spades} flop. Monroe bet 26,000 when the turn came {10-Hearts}, a bet which Arjang called. On the river {8-Spades}, Monroe bet 27,000. Arjang quickly raised to 82,000, sending Monroe into the tank once again. After two minutes, Peter Feldman approached TD Matt Savage and asked for a clock. Savage informed Monroe that he had one minute to make a decision.

"Someone call the clock on me again?" asked a surprised Monroe. Savage nodded, and for the second time Monroe folded. He remains short, with about 270,000. Arjang has 1.55 million.

Xuan Nguyen Eliminated in 18th Place ($51,114)

Xuan Nguyen - 18th Place
Xuan Nguyen - 18th Place
Xuan Nguyen didn't make many friends when he slowrolled preflop a few days ago with pocket aces. Thus there wasn't much sympathy when he pushed all in preflop against Binh Nguyen with an inferior hand and was called.

Xuan: {A-Hearts} {7-Hearts}
Binh: {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs}, which was no help for Xuan. Binh collected the pot to move to 1.66 million in chips and the apparent chip lead; Xuan headed to the cage to collect $51,114 in prize money.
