Babel No Fish

Nicolas Babel has been gathering chips and fighting his tables right from the get-go today, and his six-figure stack is there to prove it. In the few minutes the tournament has been running since returning from dinner, he's managed to take a pot off Sorel Mizzi (raising him to 8,200 when Mizzi bet out 3,200 on a {3-Hearts} {4-Spades} {8-Spades} flop; he passed with a wince) and knock out Roberto Romanello.

Romanello went out chatting, setting himself as committed preflop after making it 8,200 to go (leaving himself 550). Prior to this bet, Babel had made it 850 to play and received two callers already. He looked at what remained of Romanello's stack, and had it confirmed that, "It's nothing."

"What do you mean, it's nothing? It's something to me!" Romanello expressed in mock outrage before querying, "Would you pass if you miss the flop?"

The answer would probably have been No, but as it happened Babel check-called as Romanello put the last of his stack in with {9-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}, saying, "You've hit - be honest, don't lie.." Yes, Babel's {A-Spades} {J-Spades} was good and stayed so as the {6-Clubs} turn and {2-Hearts} river came down. Romanello did try sleight-of-hand-ing one of his own nines in there in place of the river, but the canny dealer (and everyone else) spotted it right away.

Eetu Frenchmen?

Guillaume Darcourt raised preflop to 1,000 and Antony Lellouche quickly reraised to 2,400 from the button. Eetu Halonen cold-called out of the small blind and so did Darcourt.

The flop was a Gobi-desert looking {2-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} and Halonen led out for 3,400, Darcourt called and so did Lellouche, the pot suddenly looked very large. But before any more action could take place, the {Q-Clubs} turn and {J-Diamonds} river were quickly checked down. Halonen showed {10-Diamonds} {10-Spades} and the other two players mucked.

90 Minute Dinner Break

Yes, here in Paris we have enough time for at least a couple of courses during the dinner break, which probably fills the players with delight as they head off in various directions. Back in 1:26:00... 1:25:59...

In Contempt Of Darcourt

Guillaume Darcourt limped under the gun and Antony Lellouche raised to 1,050. Everyone else passed and Darcourt reraised to 3,850 Lellouche called and they were heads-up to the flop.

The board came {10-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} which would surely look to have been more helpful to Lellouche than Darcourt, but the latter bet out 5,000 and Lellouche made the call. On the {9-Clubs} turn, Darcourt thought for a moment before checking and Lellouche bet 7,000, Darcourt thought for a moment before letting it go.

These two are pretty deep still though this won't be the last battle...

Busquet Busto

Yes, WPT Borgata Champ Olivier Busquet has hit the rail during level four, in this manner: fourway to a flop of {5-Spades} {K-Hearts} {10-Hearts} it was Busquet who bet 1,600, called by two players, one in position and one out. The turned {6-Spades} saw his final bet - all in for 8,200 - called by the in-position opponent with {K-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} - and the draw(s) missed making the river {5-Diamonds} the last card relevant to him in this event.

Down to 78 players and swiftly approaching the dinner break, although in this last 90 minute level several players seem to have cracked and ordered rather tasty-looking Aviation Club de France food.
