Per of Kings

Big pot for Per Linde, and a tortured-looking call from Tristan Clemencon just now. It started fast, with a preflop raise from Linde, a flat call and then a big blind re-raise to 2,925 from Clemencon. Back to Linde, who fourbet (7,200), getting rid of the middle flatter but eventually luring in Clemencon.

The flop brought a splash of paint: {J-Hearts} {10-Spades} {A-Spades} but anyone expecting action would have been disappointed here as Clemencon checked behind Linde. The {Q-Spades} on the turn, likewise, appeared to interest neither player, and it took the {5-Clubs} and a check from Clemencon on the river before another bet was made. Clemencon now considered Linde's 10,500 bet, going through the gamut of decision-making processes you see at tournaments:

Asking him, "Do you have Queens?" and being told straight, "I won't tell..."

Getting the dealer to spread the pot and staring at it...

Counting out his stack, then picking up the call and shaking it dangerously over the line...

Finally he threw it in - and saw Linde with {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}. He drops to 35k, while Linde's up to around 60k.

Mizzi and Dhorasoo Interested in Same Lady

Sorel Mizzi, undaunted by his climb towards the chip lead, or more recent downswing, is still getting involved, but it's not all been going his way. He raised in early position to 800 just now, called by Roberto Romanello (the rumors of whose exit have been somewhat exaggerated) and Vikash Dhorasoo. Mizzi bet the flop of {7-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {5-Hearts}, Romanello passed, and Vikash then raised to 4,600. There was a pause, but not enough to make popcorn, and he called.

Both players checked the {10-Diamonds} turn, but on the {Q-Diamonds} river Mizzi bet out 6,800. After not very long at all Dhorasoo called with his {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} and got to take the pot seeing the {Q-Clubs} {7-Clubs} in his opponent's hand for a worse two pair on the crucial river.

Vikash Dhorasoo now up to 55,000, while Mizzi down to around the same.

Saout! Saout! Saout is on Fire!

Antoine Saout is generally a quiet presence on the tables in a tournament. It's hard to believe how close he really came to winning the WSOP main event last year, but he doesn't ever seem to suffer under the weight of expectation, rather just gets on with his job quietly.

Joining the action on the turn, Erik Haik check-called a bet of 6,975 with the board reading {A-Hearts} {6-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}. The river was the {7-Diamonds} and Haik checked once more.

Saout thought for a couple of minutes before counting his chips and firing out 16,100 to put more pressure on Haik for a decision that would cost the latter most of his stack. After about five minutes of hard thinking, Haik called the clock on himself, as everyone else suddenly gained a great deal of interest. The tournament director came by and began to count down the clock, eventually Haik ran out of time and he mucked his {A-Spades} {J-Spades} face up.

A wordless Saout quietly scooped the pot.

Snakes and Ladders for Lacay

In the last 15 minutes of the 100/200 level, Ludovic Lacay became involved in a threeway pot which grew to 10k by the river on a board of {9-Hearts} {A-Spades} {10-Spades}... {8-Hearts}... {3-Spades}. On the river, Bingjian Ren bet out two 5k chips (representing over half his remaining stack and putting the pressure on Lacay and Alban Messe). Both players took their time over this one, but while Messe folded, Lacay counted down his 18k or so and then made the call. Ren showed the nuts - {K-Spades}{2-Spades} - and Lacay is back to square one, having more than doubled his early-dented stack (he was down to just over 7k at one point) over the last two hours' play. That was a slow ladder and a quick snake.

Gregory Cain's Stack

The short-stacked Gregory Cain just got the last in preflop with a couple of likely looking broadway makers {K-Spades} {10-Clubs} vs. {4-Spades} {4-Clubs}. His shot to double up turned into an invitation to exit stage left, however, as the board ran out {A-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {3-Spades} {J-Clubs} {A-Clubs} giving his opponent a better two pair. He's leaving the table which is currently supporting the weight of Guillaume Darcourt's field leading stack - comfortably over 110,000 and rising.

Meanwhile a table has been broken and those from table Two are filling in the gaps left by no-shows or bustos. These look to include Roberto Romanello who's been replaced in the last 20 minutes, while ex-neighbour Erik Wigg has over 70k. While you never like to jump to conclusions, those two things may be connected.
