Ramon Colillas (early position) and Arthur Conan (big blind) got their chips in the middle before the flop. Conan was the at risk player for 99,200, Colillas had just slightly more.
From early position, Anthony Edouard Chimkovitch, who finished 20th in the EPT Barcelona Main Event for €49,170 this year after having been chip leader for some time, opened for 3,500. Barny Boatman thought about it for a bit before he announced raise, and slid forward 5,400 in chips.
Action folded back to Chimkovitch and some players at the table discussed if the small raise by Boatman was permitted. It was, Chimkovitch called.
Both players checked the flop and the hit the turn. Chimkovitch bet 6,500 and Boatman shoved all in decisively. Chimkovitch folded instantly.
Mouad Benharmach, who started the day 3rd in chips, just knocked out his neighbor. The two got it in on an 8-high board with a 7 as well, with Benharmach holding pocket sevens and his neighbor . Benharmach now plays 260,000, 163 big blinds.
Action folded to Andris Resevskis on the button and he opened for 3,800. Small blind Jonathan Therme three-bet to 11,600 and the big blind gave up. Resevskis called in position.
The flop came and Therme continued for 8,200. Resevskis called again.
With the hitting the turn, Therme checked. Resevskis bet 17,500 and Therme moved all in for about 40,000. Resevskis checked his cards one more time to be sure and called.
Jonathan Therme:
Andris Resevskis:
Therme was drawing slim and got up from the table. The meaningless on the river was there just to make things official.
Severely short stacked, Barny Boatman found himself in the big blind in the first hand of the day. The small blind hadn't arrived yet, so there was some dead money in the pot already.
From early position, Pierre Antoine Quignard raised to 3,200. His neighbor Zakaria called and action folded to Boatman. He pushed for 11,300 and both Quignard and Zakaria called.
The flop came and Quignard bet 10,500. Zakaria folded.
Barny Boatman:
Pierre Antoine Quignard:
The on the turn and on the river were blanks and Boatman tripled!
I'd rather be lucky than good. Mind you, I haven't tried being good, so I wouldn't really know.
In 2 hours time, the Main Event of the 2016 PMU.fr WPT National Marrakech resumes. Day 2 awaits, and it's going to be a gruelling one. No less than 127 players remain and only 45 will make the money.
EPT Deauville High Roller champion Eric Sfez leads the field with a stack of 268,800. The first level will be 800/1,600 with a 200-ante, which means Sfez is bringing a whopping 168 big blinds to the table.
The contrast with Mathieu Selides couldn't be any bigger. The Frenchman brings just 2,000 to the table according to the official chip counts, good for just a little more than a single big blind. British bracelet winner Barny Boatman is also in a pickle, he lost a big pot late last night where his flush was rivered by a full house which cost him. Boatman starts the day with 12,500.
Day 2 kicks off at noon and PokerNews will be on-site for coverage all day long.
