McClain Soars Past 200K

Mike McClain
Mike McClain
Mike McClain opened the pot with a raise to 10,000 and Rick Troendly made the call.

The flop came down {A-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {Q-Spades} and both players checked. The turn delivered the {6-Diamonds} and McClain fired a 20,000 bet that Troendly called in a heartbeat.

The river brought the {K-Hearts} and McClain open-shoved all in. Troendly considered calling for a minute, but eventually folded, flashing the {A-Hearts}.

"I got there," said McClain, as he tabled {J-Spades} {10-Spades} for the nut Broadway straight.

After the hand, McClain stacked up 215,000 in chips while Troendly dropped to 87,000.

Chris Dombrowski Eliminated in 16th Place ($7,042)

Chris Dombrowski's all-in move
Chris Dombrowski's all-in move
Chris Dombrowski raised to 11,000 from middle position before the action folded around to Travis Erdman in the small blind. Erdman, after some deliberation, reraised to 32,000 prompting Dombrowski to declare himself all in for his remaining 40,000. After deciding to look Dombrowski up, Erdman tabled {A-?} {K-?} to the {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs} of Dombrowski.

The window revealed an {K-Diamonds} and was accompanied by {5-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}. The turn was the {4-Clubs}, and the river added insult to injury as it fell {A-Spades}.

Dombrowski collected the last $7,042 payday before the prize money bump. Erdman added to his stack and is now at 251,000.

Clements Takes a Hit; Doubles Up Troendly

Rick Troendly
Rick Troendly
Rick Troendly replayed his double-up hand for us: Holding aces, Troendly min-raised from late position and was called by Clements, who was in the small blind. The flop came {7-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} and Clements checked to Troendly who shoved all in for a total of 46,900. Clements made the call and tabled {K-?} {10-?}.

The turn and river filled out an inconsequential {5-Hearts}, {7-Hearts} and Troendly raked in the pot worth over 100,000. Clements, meanwhile, dropped to 74,000 in the loss.

James "Drew" Marks Eliminated in 17th Place ($7,042)

James "Drew" Marks eliminated in 17th
James "Drew" Marks got his money all in with {K-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} against the {7-?} {7-?} of Jake Solis. Marks had plenty of outs as the flop produced {J-?} {Q-?} along with a blank. But failing to connect on the turn or the river, Marks shipped his remaining short stack over to Solis, who collected his second bust-out since the money.

Marks will take home $7,042 for his efforts this weekend. Solis is up to 250,000 after the hand.

Nguyen'er

Tay Nguyen
Tay Nguyen
Rick Troendly and Tay Nguyen just clashed in a monster pot that left Troendly with just 52,000 in chips.

Bill Bostick limped into the pot from middle position, Troendly called from the small blind and Nguyen checked his option in the big. The flop came down {Q-Spades} {J-Spades} {K-Diamonds} and all three players checked. The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and Troendly led out with a 6,000 bet. Nguyen responded with a raise to 18,000 and Bostick got out of their way. When the action returned to Troendly, he reraised, making it a total of 33,000 to play; Nguyen just called.

The {9-Diamonds} -- a scare card in every sense of the word -- fell on the river and Troendly immediately slid a stack of blue 500-denomination chips across the betting line, a bet worth 15,000. After a short dwell in the tank, Nguyen made the call and Troendly conceded, saying, "Nice call, you got it. I missed," as he returned his cards to the dealer. Nguyen showed {J-Diamonds} {4-Spades} for two pair to rake the pot.

After the hand, Nguyen stacked up an impressive 170,000 in chips.

Bostick and McClain Spice Things Up

Bill Bostick
Bill Bostick
With the action 9,000 to go, both Bill Bostick and Mike McClain saw a flop of {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {7-Hearts}. Bostick from the small blind led out with 17,000, and McClain behind him in the big blind decided to see another card. The turn was the {J-Clubs} and both players checked it down. After the river {Q-Clubs} and more of the same (check, check), McClain showed {9-Clubs} {A-Spades}, which was good enough to beat Bostick's {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}.

This was more action than many have seen since the dinner break as the pace has slowed tremendously. McClain has around 163,00 to Bostick's 71,000 after the hand.

History on the Line

Two of the 17 remaining players in the field have a chance to make WSOP Circuit history this weekend.

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson currently owns three circuit championship gold rings and is the only player to own that many. Back when he won his second, Ferguson was the first player to have won two. Last November when he won this very same event, he was the first player to have won three. Now he's within sight of becoming the first player to win four! Ferguson currently has around 86,000 in chips -- about 30,000 below average.

Travis Erdman is another player who's quickly making a name for himself up here in the mountains. Erdman made the final table of this event in each of the last two years and now he's got a very good shot to make his third straight final table appearance. Erdman currently has around 200,000 in chips and unless something catastrophic happens, he'll likely achieve that milestone.

Chop It Up

Mike McClain was at it again, opening another pot with a raise to 8,000. The action then fell to Emilio Porcalla who quickly announced, "I'm all in." Action folded around the table and back to McClain, who asked for a count.

"37,100" the dealer told him, and McClain made the call.

Showdown:
McClain: {A-Spades} {K-Spades}
Porcalla: {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}

The flop came down {J-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {10-Hearts} giving both players the nut Broadway straight and a chance at hitting running flush cards. The turn and river filled out anticlimactically, however, finishing out {7-Diamonds}, {2-Diamonds} and the players took their bets back.

McClain Puts the McHurt on Troendly

Mike McClain opened the pot with a raise to 8,000 and Rick Troendly made the call. The flop came {A-Spades} {10-Spades} {3-Clubs} and McClain made a continuation bet of 15,000. Troendly then raised it up to 30,000, the minimum allowed, and McClain responded with an all-in reraise, after asking Troendly to count his remaining stack. Troendly wasted little time tossing his cards into the muck, leaving himself with around 86,000 in chips.

McClain piled up about 138,000 after the hand.
