"You Show One and I'll Show One"

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante

We found this hand developing on the turn with the board reading {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {Q-Spades}. Kathy Liebert bet 3,000 and David To quickly moved all in.

Liebert sat back in her chair and said, "Aww, you show one and I'll show one."

To did not look like he would agree to such a thing.

"Okay, I'm folding. But you pick one of mine to show and I'll pick one of yours," Liebert said.

To nodded yes and slid his cards facedown across the felt and Liebert flipped over the {A-Diamonds}. To had the dealer flip over one of Liebert's and it was the {A-Spades}.

"Well that didn't get me anything," Liebert said.

Pegasus Slain

We didn't catch the exact hand, but we do know that the all-time WSOP-Circuit gold ring winner, Mark "Pegasus" Smith, was recently eliminated from the Main Event. His day came to an end when, on a king-high flop, he got his short stack all in only to run into the {K-}{Q-} of his opponent. Smith flashed a {K-} before sending his hand to the muck, putting an end to his run at ring #6 . . . until Day 1b at least.

Cartwright Slow Rolled Outta Here

With about 2,000 in the pot and a board reading {J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{K-Spades}, a player in middle position lead out for 1,000 and was raised to 4,000 by Kyle Cartwright, who if you recall won an astounding three WSOP-Circuit rings last season. The player in the small blind made the call, as did the middle-position players, and it was three handed to the {3-Hearts} turn.

The small blind checked, MP bet 5,000, and Cartwright moved all in for 5,800. The small blind tank-folded, while MP asked for a count. He then called the paltry sum, watched as Cartwright revealed {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}, and waited about five seconds before showing {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. It was a bit of a slow roll and Cartwright wasn't too pleased. An ace on the river could still give him the win, but it was not meant to be as the {6-Spades} peeled off.

Cartwright gathered his things and made a quick exit from the tournament floor, but not before informing us that he'd be back for Day 1b; after all, he had won two seats in satellites!

Short Stacked Ninja Hanging Tough

Jennifer Parrish is in the field today and is sitting below the starting stack. Parrish finished in 14th place at the WSOPC Southern Indiana Main Event mostly due to her short stack play. When the field was trimmed to three tables she never rose above ten big blinds and was forced all in on the blinds a couple of times, only to keep surviving. It's notable that she's doing all this while seven months pregnant.

Breaking 900

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

The tournament clock now reads 906 players for today's event. Late registration is open up until the dinner break, so that number ought to increase even more. Pretty impressive considering this same event last year got 872 entrants total. No matter the turnout for tomorrow's Day 1b, the Hammond Main Event has already proven to be bigger and better!

Brown Hanging Around

We've been trying to catch Chad Brown in a significant pot all day, but are coming up dry. We recently watched him raise to 700 on the button after a player in middle position limp, only to have both the blinds and the limper fold.

While he may not be playing monster pots quite yet, Brown is slowly building a stack. He is up to 26,000.
