Scarborough Breaks a Million

Mike Scarborough
Mike Scarborough

Action folded to a player in the cutoff and he moved all in for 109,000. The button then moved all in over the top for approximately 170,000, and Mike Scarborough called from the small blind.

Showdown
Scarborough: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}
Button: {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Cutoff: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Scarborough, who finished yesterday as the Day 1b chip leader, has been mixing it up here today and running well. Fortunately for him, this hand proved no different as the flop came down {4-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Both his opponents began collecting their things, and were promptly escorted to the payout desk after the {4-Clubs} and {5-Diamonds} were run our on the turn and river.

Scarborough is up to 1.23 million.

Brown Takes Some Down

A player in middle position opened for 40,000 only to have Chad Brown three-bet all in for 203,000 total in the hijack. The blinds got out of the way, as did the original raiser. Brown picked up some much-needed chips without so much as a flop, increasing his stack to 250,000.

Johnson Rebuilding

A player in early position opened for 33,000 and was met with a three-bet to 75,000 by Nic Johnson. The rest of the field cleared out of the way while the EP player made the call, which he followed with a check on the {6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop.

Johnson took a moment before flicking out a modest bet of 58,000, which proved enough to take down the pot.

Brown Makes Measured Decision

It seems that every time we have a Chad Brown hand to report we don't find it until the river. Well, nothing has changed folks. Brown was heads up with Mike Scarborough with a near 200,000 pot in the middle and the board read {3-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {J-Spades}. Brown moved 135,000 into the middle, about one-third of his remaining stack, and Scarborough moved all in - having Brown covered by a lot.

Brown went into a deep, motionless tank until he rechecked his cards. "Do you want me to call?" he asked. "I think you might have three jacks and I can beat three jacks."

Scarborough didn't flinch and Brown sat a little longer. Brown finally folded and Scarborough let out a huge exhale.

Crain Battles Kroon for Big Pot

Action folded to Eric Crain on the button and he put in a raise to 30,000. "I had a rule that I wasn't going to do this to you," Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon said from the small blind as he three-bet to 84,000. "I'm breaking my rule." Crain ended up making the call and it was heads up to the {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop, which saw Kroon fire out 112,000.

Crain asked for a count, and then casually announced that he was all in. Kroon, who had approximately 700,000 back, shot back in his chair and said, "Oh man, I don't think I can fold. I sure would like to." He then began counting down his stack as he threw in casual observations.

"There's zero chance I don't have the best hand."

"Honestly, if I fold this hand, I should just quit poker."

After another 90 seconds or so, Kroon tossed his cards to the muck. "Please don't show me," he added with all sincerity. Crain didn't show him, but did say he had {A-}{Q-}. Kroon slowly nodded his head up and down and admitted that he held {A-}{Q-} as well.

"The better player won," Kroon concluded.

Scarborough Sends One Packing

Action folded to a player in the cutoff and he moved all in for 119,000. The button made the call, as did Mike Scarborough, and there was side action created headed to the {6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop. Scarborough was first to act and moved all in, prompting the button to fold.

Showdown
Scarborough: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}
Cutoff: {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

The at-risk player was ahead with a pair of nines, but Scarborough held an open-ended straight draw. Wouldn't you know it, the {5-Spades} spiked on the river to complete the said draw and give the former World Poker Tour Champ a lock on the hand. The {6-Spades} was run out on the river as Scarborough increased his stack to 650,000.
