An older gentleman in Seat 2 opened to 600, got one call and then Drew Demanski raised to 1,550. Another player behind him called and action was back on the original raiser. The older gentleman put out 2,050 without saying anything.
The dealer called for the floor for a ruling. The older gentleman didn't understand why. Since he put out more than half the amount of a min-raise, it was ruled he had to make 2,500 for a min-raise. The older gentleman didn't understand the ruling and didn't want to put the raise in. The floorman and dealer told him a second time he had to put 2,500 in the put and he reluctantly did it.
The first caller folded and Demanski insta-raised to 14,000. The player behind him folded and the older gentleman tossed all his remaining chips in and tabled . Demanski turned over and the older gentleman was not happy.
The board ran and Demanski took the pot. The older gentleman got up from the table and had few, not-so gentlemanly words for Demanksi and the tournament staff as he left.
We didn't see this hand play out, but Bernard Lee was nice enough to tell us the details as he stacked up the pot.
It began with him limping, then calling a raise to 475 before the flop. Lee called 550 there and another 1,300 on the blank turn. The river brought an , and Lee took the lead with 2,650. Mr. Opponent shoved in for about 12,000 with pocket aces, but Lee's had made the winning two pair on the end.
Lee is closing in on 60,000 chips now, and he looks to be the early leader in this Day 1b flight.
Bernard Lee limped into the pot to start the action, and someone limped along behind him before a third player raised to 575. There were two more calls in front of Lee — including Matt Chang — so he and the player behind him called as well, and it was five ways to the flop.
The dealer spread out , and Lee led out into the pot with 1,050. The preflop raiser raised again, making it 3,100 total. Chang overcalled that raise, but Lee wanted to play for more. He made it 8,700 total, and that folded Mr. Raiser to send the decision back to Chang. After a couple minute of agony in the tank, he flashed the and surrendered.
"I got it," Lee announced. "You know I got it." He laid his out on the felt as the dealer pushed him the pot.
We've just received the chip counts from the staff, so we figured we'd pass along the top ten stacks from Day 1a so you can see what the Day 1b crew is chasing.
