We found a pile of chips in the middle and another player counting out a big double up. The board read and Everett Carlton had tabled in front of him. His opponent was left with under 1,000 chips and held two red kings in the hand.
The number of entrants for Day 1b has inched up to 85 at the current moment, and we're adding another table. Jake Bazeley is one of two players seated at the late-reg table, and they'll join the action as soon as that table fills in a bit.
We picked up a three-way pot on the flop as the dealer spread out and the blinds checked to the raiser. It was Drazen Ilich, and he continued out with a bet of 375. The small blind called, but the big blind check-raised to 2,000. Only Ilich made the call.
Heads up now, the hit the turn. Ilich called a bet of 3,000 there, and another 5,000 behind the river .
"Two pair," said the big blind as he turned over . Ilich stared at it for a few seconds to make sure, then mucked to leave himself with about half his starting stack.
We just saw Rex Clinkscales exiting the tournament area. The usually amicable Clinkscales simply said, "Don't ask," and kept walking.
We found from the table that Clinkscales flopped a flush draw, turned a straight draw and bricked on the river. Bernard Lee was the recipient of his stack when he held a set of sixes and is near 40,000.
After a flop of Bernard Lee bet 650 and got two callers. The turn came and all three players checked. The river fell and again all three players checked.
Bernard Lee announced "Ace" and tabled . The other two players folded and Lee took a small pot.
We've got 76 players registered for Day 1b so far, and the cage will remain open until the cards go in the air on Day 2.
By the way... we should probably mention that you won't be seeing us here tomorrow. The Circuit is off for the Easter holiday, so Day 2 will recommence at 11:00am on Monday.
Another familiar face! This one belongs to Kai Landry, winner of the 2009 WSOPC Main Event in Tunica. He took home more than $180,000 for that win, and he's back here in Council Bluffs this week to try for number two. Landy skipped the afternoon session, so this is his first bullet here in Iowa.
