Nines Work for Hwang

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Robert Hwang just scored a big double-knockout over on Table 74. It was a three-way all-in situation in which Hwang held {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} and had both of his opponents covered, with their hands being {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} and {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}.

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts}, the nine in the window giving Hwang a set. The turn belatedly brought the {A-Diamonds} for his opponents, which paired them both but left them drawing dead.

A Hit to Glantz

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Matt Glantz just open-pushed his short stack from late position and got a single caller from the blinds by an opponent who had but 10,000 and was thus covered by Glantz.

Glantz had {K-Spades}{9-Clubs} and his opponent {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, and after the board came {2-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts} Glantz's opponent survived. Meanwhile he now sits with just over 16,000 — about 10 big blinds.

Big Stacks Could Battle

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

We just finished talking about Hend Matthews, but she has some competition for the chip lead. Not of the tournament. At her table. Matthews is one of our big stacks at 234,000, but the only person in the room who has her covered, Xiaofeng Hu, is sitting three seats to her right. Hu is sitting on 248,000, and is the chip leader of the tournament. These big stacks could be colliding very soon.

More for Matthews

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Alex Rivera opened for 4,000 from middle position and picked up three callers, including Hend Matthews playing from the big blind. The flop came {10-Spades}{4-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and all four players checked. The turn brought the {2-Diamonds}, and when it checked to Rivera he fired 11,000. It folded back to Matthews who quickly called.

The river was the {7-Clubs}. Matthews checked, and Rivera pushed out 26,000. Matthews reached for her chips then stopped to lean forward.

"Is that the last of your grays?" she asked of Rivera, who affirmed he had no more 5,000 chips left. Matthews thought a short while longer then called.

"I have a seven," said Rivera, flashing a {7-}, and Matthews tabled her {10-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a better pair to claim the pot.

Jamshidi-Frangos Tangle

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Sirous Jamshidi opened for 3,700 from middle position, then Nick Frangos quickly raised to 8,700 from a couple of seats over. It folded back around to Jamshidi who tossed out a gray (5,000) chip to call.

The flop brought three face cards, coming {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Jamshidi checked, and Frangos again acted without hesitation by firing a bet of 4,000. Jamshidi leaned forward and asked how much Frangos had left, and his opponent held up his hands to reveal his stacks totaling a little less than 30,000.

Jamshidi considered a few more moments, then tossed his hand. Both players continue to battle with below average stacks.

Baumstein Pushes Ting Out

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Action folded around to the player on the button, and he raised it up to 3,500. Scott Baumstein made it 8,800 out of the small blind, and Ting Ho was in the big blind. She thought for about 30 seconds before tossing in the call, a few chips at a time. The button folded, and Baumstein and Ho went to the flop.

That flop came down {q-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts}, and Baumstein checked after about 30 seconds of tanking. Ho slowly assembled a bet together, and slid 11,000 into the middle. Baumstein took only about ten seconds before stacking all of his big chips in a tower and sliding them forward, a bet of around 40,000. Baumstein had only 3,000 behind, so he was essentially moving all in. Ho tanked for about 20 seconds before releasing her hand, and tapping the table.

Ho dropped to 90,000 after the hand, while Baumstein jumped up to 66,000.
