Ting Done; Blumenthal Crippled

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Ting Ho had some success here at the WSOP Circuit Council Bluffs yesterday when she finished as runner-up to Nathan Bjerno in Event #9 $580 No-Limit Hold'em for $16,302. It was an impressive performance for the woman dating the current National Leaderboard points leader, Rex Clinkscales. Unfortunately for her, she wouldn't find the same success here on Day 1a.

Ting got her last 5,250 all in preflop holding the {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and was racing against the {4-Hearts}{4-Spades} of Tony Hartman. According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Ting had a 45.63% chance of surviving the hand, though that dropped to just 12.73% on the {2-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Spades} flop. The {2-Diamonds} turn gave Ting just a 9.09% chance of doubling, and the {J-Hearts} river dropped it to zero. Ting took her leave from the Day 1a flight and opted not to fire another bullet.

Meanwhile, Eddie Blumenthal was left with just 3,400 after he ran his {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} into the {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} of an opponent who was all in for 10,050. The board ran out an uneventful {10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{j-Spades}{6-Spades} and Blumenthal was left with five big blinds.

Justice on the River for Cheung

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We didn't catch how the chips went in, but Robert Cheung was all in for 13,000 holding the {a-Spades}{k-Spades} against his opponent's {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. He was in great shape to double up until the {8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Spades} peeled off on the flop. After some sighs around the table, Cheung found hope when the {6-Spades} came on the turn and gave him a flush draw.

"Justice," said Cheung as the {q-Spades} came on the river to make him the nut flush.

Battle of Blinds: Masek vs. Ilich

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

The table folded around to Alex Masek in the small blind, and he raised to 1,700. Drazen Ilich called from the big blind and the blind battle commenced between the two tournament regulars, who boast well over $1,000,000 in cashes combined.

After seeing a {3-Clubs}{J-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop, Masek fired 2,000. Ilich called, and they took in a {7-Diamonds} on the turn. Masek checked, Ilich bet 3,200, and Masek folded after a minute of thought.

Chainsaw Drags a Pot

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler had bet out 1,500 on a board of {9-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and watched his opponent raise to 4,000. Kessler called, and both players checked the {10-Spades} turn. Kessler led out 5,000 on the {3-Spades} river, and his opponent folded after some thought.

Cowboy Fires Bullets

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

Ben Smith, known as "Cowboy Ben" for his unmistakable cowboy hat, is a regular at Ho-Chunk Casino in Wisconsin Dells. We caught Smith, moving all in on a {3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop which allowed him to rake in a 10,000 side pot after an opponent folded. However, there was 16,000 in the main pot. Smith tabled {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} against the {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} of his opponent. The {j-Diamonds} on the turn gave his opponent some outs, but no suck-out would happen this time as the {2-Hearts} peeled off on the river.

The Remaining WSOP Circuit Schedule

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

There are quite a few players chasing points toward the National Championship here at Council Bluffs, and that's because the stops are winding down on this year's schedule. Here's a look at the remaining schedule for the 2012-13 WSOP Circuit:

Day 1b Update

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

It looks like eight tables or so are being utilized for the Day 1b field, which is taking place on the far side of the Whiskey Roadhouse. Among the players in that field are re-entries such as Larry Ormson, Rex Clinkscales, Kat Bowen, Jason Mayfield and Arkady Tsinis.

We've also spotted Stephen Kats, who opted to skip Day 1a and fire his first bullet on Day 1b. You may recall had some success here at Council Bluffs last year.

"I Let You Get There"

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

With 3,000 in the pot and a flop of {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, the player in the small blind checked and Logan Headley did the same from the big. Two-time WSOP Circuit ring winner Mark Bonsack then took the opportunity to bet 1,200 from the hijack, only Headley called, and both players checked the {7-Hearts} turn.

When the {9-Spades} peeled off on the river, Headley fired out 3,500 and it appeared Bonsack called with the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, though we're not quite sure. Either way, Headley rolled over the {9-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a rivered full house and the win.

"I let you get there," Bonsack said while shaking his head.
