Woodke Doubles Through Day 1a Chip Leader

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Kelly Cortum finished as the Day 1a chip leader 140,000.
Kelly Cortum finished as the Day 1a chip leader 140,000.

Drew Woodke got his last 29,600 all in preflop holding the {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and was a huge favorite over the {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} of Kelly Cortum, who if you recall finish as the chip leader in the Day 1a flight with 140,000.

"Unbelievable," Woodke said when the {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop delivered Cortum a set. The rest of the table chimed in that Cortum had been running hot. The {7-Spades} turn was of no consequence, but the {10-Clubs} river was. Much to the shock and awe of the entire table, Woodke spiked his two-outter on the river and seemingly put a halt to Cortum's momentum.

Clinkscales Runs Into Kings

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

"I'm done," WSOP Circuit National Leader Board points leader Rex Clinkscales said as he passed by our desk. "Eights into kings."

Clinkscales seemed a little disappointed, but not too much considering his point total locks him up a seat in this year's National Championship.

Hinkle Adding Chips

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

World Series of Poker bracelet winner Grant Hinkle continues to increase his stack. In a hand we witnessed just before the level changed, he defended his big blind from an early position min-raiser. After a raggedy {2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop, Hinkle checked to his opponent, who bet 5,200. Hinkle raised to 12,000 and his opponent mucked in short order. Hinkle, who took down a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event in 2008, now has around 120,000 chips.

"Always a Sweat"

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Mark Fink won Event #10 $365 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo on Friday night for $15,835.
Mark Fink won Event #10 $365 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo on Friday night for $15,835.

Michael Taliaferro opened for 3,800 and picked up a call from the player in the hijack. Mark Fink then three-bet to 8,800 from the button, the blinds both folded, and Taliaferro shoved for approximately 40,000. The hijack folded and Fink said, "It wasn't a button steal. I guess I call."

Fink: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Taliaferro: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}

Fink was in big trouble and the {j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Spades} flop didn't look too promising. However, the {5-Spades} turn made things interesting as it gave Fink a flush draw. Unfortunately for him, the {7-Diamonds} river wouldn't complete it and Taliaferro doubled.

"Always a sweat," someone quipped. Indeed, that always seems to be the case.

In other news, David Pecaski, Weston Broad and Jessie Bryant have all been eliminated from the tournament.

Holm Wins Notable Pot

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Former chip leader Jeff Heiberg opened to 4,200 in middle position, and Mike Holm called, only to see the player to his immediate left raise to 10,000. Heiberg immediately called, as did Holm.

The flop brought the {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}{K-Clubs}, and Heiberg checked. Holm led for 15,000 into the raiser, who muttered something inaudible before folding. Heiberg also folded, and Holm scooped up a nice pot.

Chainsaw Cuts Down Riley

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

"All in over at Table 1," Allen Kessler shouted even though he was seated at Table 42. We made our way over to find Matthew Riley all in for his last 25,500 holding the {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and in bad shape against Kessler's {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Both men were on their feet, but there would be little excitement as the board ran out {9-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

Meanwhile, Steven Dale, Amyn Punjani and Thomas Medina have all been eliminated from the tournament.

Masek Run Over by the Tran Train; Defending Champ gone

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Alex Masek, who holds the all-time WSOP Circuit ring record with six, won't be capturing his seventh here today as he was just eliminated by Henry Tran.

According to a player at the table, Tran opened for 3,500 and then called when Masek shipped all in for approximately 28,000. Tran tabled {A-}{Q-} and was well out in front of Masek's {A-}{J-}. The board ran out clean and that was all she wrote for Masek.

Meanwhile, the defending champ, Scott Stanko, appears to have been eliminated from the tournament. His former table has broke, and Stanko is nowhere to be found.
