Pupillo Gets a Bit of Value; Updated Chip Counts From Table 4

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Josh Taff raised to 18,000 from middle position, and James Pupillo called in the small blind.

Both players checked the {3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{a-Hearts} flop, and Pupillo bet 15,000 on the {10-Clubs} turn. Taff called.

Both players checked the {4-Diamonds} river, and Pupillo said, "Ace," before tabling {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. Taff mucked.

Maahs Slicks Magnuson for Double

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Kevin Maahs
Kevin Maahs

Kevin Maahs opened for 16,000 from the cutoff and Janae Magnuson three-bet to 75,000 from the small blind, Action folded back to Maahs who moved all in for 173,000 and was called by Magnuson.

Kevin Maahs: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Janae Magnuson: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Maahs had Magnuson dominated but the {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{j-Hearts} flop gave her a gutterball.

The {6-Hearts} turn was no help for Magnuson nor was the {4-Diamonds} river and Maahs scooped the double.

Brown's Day Comes to a Close

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Jeremy Brown
Jeremy Brown

Jeremy Brown jammed for 96,000 from under the gun, and Nikolas Stone called in the big blind.

Jeremy Brown: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Nikolas Stone: {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Brown's hopes were dashed as the {4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop gave Stone top pair, leaving him drawing to a queen or running straight cards to survive. The {a-Clubs} turn added a few outs with any king or queen giving Brown a double, but the {9-Hearts} river ended his run, instead.

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Jeremy Jacobs

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in Milwaukee to live report action the $1,700 Main Event, but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

In Event #12: $400 No-Limit Hold’em One-Day, 130 entrants created a $42,900 prize pool.

That was paid out to the top 20 finishers, and among those to make the money but fall short of the final table were Todd Sladek (10th - $970), Brett Apter (11th - $815), Josh Reichard (14th - $706), Dan Dombrowski (19th - $582), and Nick Reynolds (20th - $555).

Coming out on top was 41-year-old contractor Jeremy Jacobs from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Prior to the win, which was good for $11,529 and his first gold ring, Jacobs had just $1,436 in live tournament winnings.

Perrone Sets Up Magnuson for the Elimination

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Janae Magnuson
Janae Magnuson

Janae Magnuson opened under the gun for 20,000 and was called by Michael Perrone from early position along with Forrest Raleigh from the big blind.

The flop fell {7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and Raleigh check-folded after Magnuson fired out 50,000 while Perrone called.

Magnuson check-called Perrone's 100,000 bet after the {6-Clubs} fell on the turn and checked her option one last time after the {5-Hearts} river completed the board.

Perrone announced "all-in" putting Magnuson at risk.

Magnuson turned around and looked at the payouts before she put her stack in the middle.

Michael Perrone: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Janae Magnuson: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Magnuson saw the bad news and told Perrone, "nice hand," before making her way to the payout desk.

Torcolese Finds the Perfect River For a Monster Double

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

From the small blind, Michael Esquivel bet 80,000 into a pot of 150,000 on the turn of an {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{a-Spades}{8-Clubs} board, and Jack Torcolese made the call from the button.

Esquivel bet 150,000 on the {j-Spades} river, and Torcolese jammed for 301,000. Esquivel tanked for a minute before calling with {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a rivered Broadway straight, but Torcolese made a full house on the river with his {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} to earn a big double.

Apter's Two Pair Propels Him Over a Milly

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

On a {k-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Spades} flop, Brett Apter (big blind) and Nikolas Stone (hijack) got into a raising war that saw Apter's last 552,000 get in the middle, and Stone had him at risk.

Brett Apter: {k-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Nikolas Stone: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Stone's queens had been cracked by the two pair of Apter, and no salvation would come on the {3-Clubs} turn and {j-Diamonds} river to earn Apter the double.
