Day 1a of Event 10: $1,700 Main Event of the 2019 WSOP Circuit Seminole Casino Coconut Creek is in the books after a long day of action.

Some 296 players took their aim at the long road to a coveted WSOP Circuit Ring and when the chips stopped flying, just 57 players remained. Leading those remaining players was Mihaly Lukacs who bagged a whopping 404,000, which is a full 100,000 more than the next closest player. The Hungarian player was spotted toward the end of play as he took a large pot off of previous big stack Scott Efron and he would ride that wave to the end of play.

Some distance behind in second place was Tyler Phillips who ended play with 292,000. James Kirvin bagged 279,000, which was good enough for third place. Steven Sarmiento (275,000) and Thomas Alcorn (265,000) rounded out the top five chip counts.

Other notable players to advance to Day 2 include; Timothy Miles (156,500), who had a roller coaster toward the end of the day but finished with a healthy stack, Jake Schwartz (151,000) and Ian O’Hara (143,500).

Many players who attempted to make Day 2 failed in their attempt and will have to try again on Day 1b if they wish to advance, including Irene Carey, Loni Harwood, Allen Kessler and local South Florida rapper Kevin Pouya.

The players who survived Day 1a shall join those who survive Day 1b, which begins at 11 a.m. local time on Saturday September 28 to converge for Day 2 on Sunday.

Just like Day 1a, PokerNews will keep you abreast of all of the Day 1b action

Sarmiento Fires River

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

On a flop of {6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades} Steven Sarmiento bet 10,500 from the cutoff, he was raised to 23,000 by Corey Burbick. Sarmiento called.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds}, both players took their time before checking. The river came the {q-Clubs}. Burbick deliberately checked and Sarmiento thought for several seconds before putting out a bet of 30,000. Burbick re-checked his cards before folding his hand.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at Florida’s Seminole Coconut Creek to live report action from both the $2,200 High Roller and $1,700 Main Event, but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

In Event #5: $400 Double Stack Turbo, 209 entries created a $68,970 prize pool. Among those to get a piece of it but fall short of the final table were Gil Aboodi (10th - $1,131), Eric Brewster (15th - $948), Howard Mash (22nd - $645), Steve Karp (25th - $596), and Jason Casten (32nd - $553).

In the end it was Wanlop Phonphornwithoon, a local restaurant owner, who finished as the last player standing to win the title for $16,720. It marked his first career gold ring.

“I feel really good. I tried many times and I finally got it,” Phonphornwithoon said after the win. “I ran really hot. I had a lot pocket pairs, flopped sets, turned a nut flush…Everything was going my way. It was unbelievable!”

Noronha Takes Heaps From Wong

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

"Ship it baby!" was heard yelled from a table in the back of the room.

It appeared as though, Santana Noronha had just won a huge pot of over 300,000 from Jerry Wong on a board of {3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} as Noronha's hand of {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} was showing as the winner with Wong's hand swept away into the muck.

The two players racked their new greatly changed stacks as the table was broken and Wong was forced to carry a much lighter stack with him across the room.
