Cohen Doubles Through Volkov

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Yehuda Cohen loudly celebrated his double-up with the cards of Ruslan Volkov already in the muck, as the latter paid off 61,500 to Cohen. In a battle button versus big blind, Cohen had jammed the {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and that ended up as the best hand on the {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} board.

"Snap call ace five Ruslan?" Cohen asked in table chat and Volkov nodded.

Refos Among the Chip Leaders; Gulas Jr Slips Below Average

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Picking up the action on the {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds} turn with 85,000 in the middle, Josef Gulas Jr bet 50,000 and Raoul Refos called in the cutoff. The {4-Clubs} river was checked by both and Gulas Jr tabled the {k-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Refos had that beat with the {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and raked in the pot, further cementing his status as one of the biggest stacks in the room.

Just Over 100 Players Remain

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Nearly four entire levels remain to be played on Day 2 and the money bubble is very slowly coming closer. With just 104 players remaining, the cash prizes are still a ways out as only the top 71 spots will get paid. Based on the last two editions, the bubble burst in the final two levels and it seems likely that history will repeat itself.

Di Nicola Among Those to Depart

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

The cards of Ermanno Di Nicola were already mucked by the dealer while a jack-high board saw the chips pushed over to Tim Zachow. According to the German, his {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} had prevailed against ace-king to send the Italian to the rail.

Just prior, Robert Kokoska was eliminated on a different table and Stanislav Koleno as well as "Onkel Otto" followed suit to reduce the field further.

Stumpe Doubles Through Melchers

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

On a coordinated board of {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, Jens Stumpe bet 20,000. Dorian Melchers verbally announced all-in which was called straight away by Stumpe

Dorian Melchers: {a-}{j-}

Jens Stumpe: {k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

There was confusion at the table as the pot was nearly awarded to Melchers but another player pointed out that Stumpe was the rightful winner with a king-high straight. Stumpe doubles his stack and Melchers slips below average.

Alkan Jams Into Tabacaru; Knocks Out Lie

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Aylar Lie
Aylar Lie

Ion Tabacaru had reraised to 36,500 and Volkan Alkan then squeezed to 127,000, sending Tabcaru into a deep tank. The clock was called on him and thirty seconds ran down without a decision to declare his cards dead.

One hand later, Aylar Lie raised to 12,000 from under the gun and Mehmet Altinok called on the button. Alkan three-bet to 50,000 in the big blind and Lie jammed for around 130,000. Altinok folded and Alkan called to create the following showdown.

Aylar Lie: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Volkan Alkan: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

The "first premium hand of the day" for Lie remained ahead on the {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Spades} flop and {7-Hearts} turn but the {a-Clubs} struck on the river. "Not my day," Lie said as she grabbed her belongings and left the tournament area.

Ricci Jams Into Neuville

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Andrea Ricci opened the action with a raise to 12,000 and Pierre Neuville three-bet to 32,000 from two seats over in the cutoff. Ricci eyeballed the stack of Neuville and four-bet to 85,000 for Neuville to come along. As the flop fell {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, Ricci bet 50,000 and Neuville tossed in calling chips.

Ricci then checked the {8-Hearts} turn, Neuville bet 42,000 and the Italian piled it in for around 175,000 to force a fold from Neuville. The table broke right after and Ricci mentioned in table chat that he had ace-king in the hand. "I cannot bluff there," he said while he was busy stacking the chips in the rack.

Zaskodny Remains Strong Despite Ta's Pressure

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Lukas Zaskodny bet 13,000 from under the gun plus one. Luc Ta raised 37,000 from the button which Zaskodny called.

Ta made a continuation bet on the flop of {6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} for 28,000 which was called in a heartbeat from Zaskodny. The fourth and fifth streets of {10-Hearts}{q-Spades} did not encourage any more betting as both checked. Zaskodny flipped over {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} and Ta quickly mucked.
