After the recent action at table 3, there was more to be had. Action was joined on the flop of 2♠9♣5♣. Ramsey Belmaaza was all in from the big blind for 275,000 while Qiwen Chen was contemplating from early position. Chen showed Ax5x before folding, while James Pillon called in the small blind.
Ramsey Belmaaza: 9♦7♣
James Pillon: 5♦5♥
Belmaaza called for running clubs but the turn was the 4♠ and the river the J♥ to end his day.
Ramsey Belmaaza was spotted with a significantly smaller stack than last check and James Pillon was apt to tell the story of how it happened.
He said that Colin Bernard limped, three other players came along before Belmaaza raised. Only Bernard called from there. The flop was low 2x3x6x. The exact details of the hand were somewhat haphazardly told by the table while another hand was going on. But the it seemed as though Belmaaza had check-called 200,000 on the turn and 300,000 on the river after a low turn and river card.
Belmaaza had called Bernard down with king-high, while Bernard had that beat with ace-high to give Bernard an unintentional big pot.
Meanwhile while the retelling was happening, there was action in the current ongoing hand where Pillon ended up all in against Wayne Obrien.
James Pillon: 10♣10♠
Wayne Obrien: Q♦Q♥
The flop came 10♥6♦8♥ to some audible "wow' reactions as Obrien was suddenly close to being out the door. The turn was the 4♥ and the river the 4♦ to end his run and give Pillon a big pot.
Three-way action was on the flop of 7♠3♦8♣. Olivier Rebello-Frechette bet 125,000 from the big blind. Kevin MacDonald called on the button. Kayvan Payman tanked in frustration before he folded the small blind.
The turn was the 9♥. MacDonald moved all in which forced a fairly quick fold from Rebello-Frechette. MacDonald added more chips to his stack which is more nearing 3 million.
There was a large pot of at least 550,000 in the middle on the river. The board read 4♥A♠8♣6♦6♠. From the big blind, Pierre-Paul Paulin bet 330,000.
Diana Shamshoum went into the tank from under the gun. She studied the board and Paulin while stewing it over. After about three minutes she called the clock on herself. As the seconds ticked down from ten she tossed in the call.
Paulin tabled the 7♥5♥ for the straight. "I knew it." said Shamshoum as she showed her beaten A♣Q♣ while Paulin gathered the big boost to his stack.
In a hand retold to PokerNews, Dustin Melanson three-bet to 110,000 over a raise. Ian Monohoyios four-bet jammed and Melanson called off his remaining 695,000 after the initial raiser folded.
Dustin Melanson: KxKx
Ian Monohoyios: QxQx
The board did not help Monohoyios and just like that the defending champion was up amongst the big stacks.
