After the High Roller, the Main Event for Apicella?
“Since I arrived on Monday in Marrakech, I haven’t been eliminated yet,” Anthony Apicella revealed during the final minutes of the day, a proud smile on his face. Could this achievement carry him all the way to victory? It just might, as Apicella is one of the 29 players who have successfully qualified for Day 3 of the 2025 World Series of Poker Marrakech Main Event, held at the Casino de Marrakech inside the Es Saadi Resort.
Winner of the High Roller ring a few days ago, Apicella has a chance to join the exclusive group of double winners during a same festival. But more than just making it to the final 30, he advances to Day 3 as the chip leader with 4,500,000 chips. Throughout the day, he enjoyed a more-than-decent run, flopping a flush to win half a million chips, finding aces to claim another big pot, and scoring the last elimination of the day.

On his path to success, Apicella will face strong contenders like Justin Tsui, who is second in chips with 3,415,000. Tsui is the last remaining player with a chance to keep this tournament’s ring in the UK following Max Deveson’s victory last year. The defending champion managed to reach the money today but was eliminated shortly before the dinner break, finishing in 79th place.
Dinesh Alt (1,950,000) and Paul Tedeschi (1,835,000), both past winners in Marrakech, will also be looking to add another trophy to their résumés. Another contender is Mathieu Choffardet, who led the chip counts early in the day and on the bubble. Despite seeing his stack shrink after a long moment at the feature table, luck was on his side, and he ended the day with 1,595,000 chips.
Volga Uyanik (1,540,000) finished the day with an almost identical stack, closely followed by Aitor Cruz (1,325,000), who impressively bounced back from just 55,000 chips in less than two hours.
While some players have smaller stacks, they should not be underestimated. Among them are Alexandre De Zutter (1,000,000), Guillaume Darcourt (965,000), and Hedi Boussetta (750,000). Meanwhile, Blaise Bourgeois (545,000) makes in Marrakech his second consecutive deep run in a WSOPC Main Event after finishing 30th in Sanremo last November.
Play will resume at 1 p.m. local time and continue until a winner is crowned, likely in the early morning hours. The 29 remaining players have each secured a prize of 83,000 MAD, but their ultimate goal is the first-place prize of 2,700,000 MAD.
