Cunningham Takes a Stroll Through Valuetown

Allen Cunningham
Allen Cunningham
Allen Cunningham opened for 2,500 and the player on the button called. The two took a flop heads-up...

{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

Cunningham bet 4,000 and his opponent called. The turn came the {7-Spades}. Both players checked. The river came the {4-Diamonds} and Cunningham pushed out 1,500. His opponent called and Cunningham showed {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. His opponent mucked and Allen now has 58,000 chips.

Some Numbers

There are 843 players remaining with two hours to go. At the end of Day 1a, there were 447. At the end of Day 1b, there were 589. What will tonight's final number be?

Joe Cassidy Eliminated

Joe managed to double up just minutes ago, but was busted almost immediately after that.

He doubled up to 8,500 with {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} against {A-Spades}{8-Spades}.

The second time around, he was all in preflop with A-K against pocket queens and received no help from the board.

Always on Duty

Joe Hachem
Joe Hachem
2005 Main Event Champion Joe Hachem has been spotted strolling about the Amazon Room. He made a brief appearance in the Final Table area and has since been making the rounds throughout the room. Likely here to check on his brother Tony's progress, his presence seems to delight the many fans and spectators on the sidelines, who've come to catch a glimpse of their favorite players. A true ambassador of the game, Hachem always takes time to sign an autograph or pose for an impromptu photo. Joe survived Day 1b and will be back on Tuesday for Day 2a, when the remaining players from Days 1a and 1b will meet.

Chip Counts Updated

Leading the field is David Filippi, brother of Amnon and the first to crack 200,000 in chips. Following him in the chip counts are Juan Fernandez, Arthur Azen, Kit Manoel, and J.C. Tran.

Ted Lawson Eliminated

Ted Lawson
Ted Lawson
With the board showing {K-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{7-Spades} on the turn and about 20,000 in the pot, Ted Lawson bets 8,000, his opponent moves all in for 40,000, and Lawson calls with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} for top pair with a queen-high flush draw. His opponent shows {9-Spades}{5-Spades} for a nine-high flush, and Lawson needs another spade on the board to survive.

The river card is the {5-Diamonds}, and Lawson loses to his opponent's flush, and he is eliminated from the tournament.

His opponent, who was standing up while the board cards were dealt, looked around, apparently expecting ESPN to record his big moment as he busted a notable player. There were no cameras.

He unhappily sat down and said, "But, there was no camera." It look like he'll have to survive a while longer and do something more notable than that to get his moment in the sun on ESPN.
