"Jman" Loves the Ladies

Phil "Jman" Galfond just took down a nice pot when he got action on his {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. A shorter stack moved all in for 10,000 and Galfond made the call. The short stack had {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and got no help from the community cards. Galfond is now well on his way with about 78,000 chips.

James Mackey Eliminated

Board: {8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{10-Spades}{A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

In the cutoff a player bets 2,500 preflop, and Zak Alameddine raises to 8,500 on the button. James Mackey in the big blind goes all in for 39,100 and Alameddine thinks about it a long time, and finally calls, showing {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The cutoff folds. Mackey has {10-Clubs}{9-Spades} and is eliminated. Alameddine has 136,300.

Maybe He CAN Quit His Day Job?

Salvatore "Sully" Erna
Salvatore "Sully" Erna
Musician Sully Erna, the vocalist/guitarist for the rock band "Godsmack," is doing his part to prove that celebrities can play too. Erna is still very much alive in the event with about 40,000 chips and has his eye on Day 2 and beyond. This is not the rocker's first Main Event. Erna cashed in last year's finale finishing in 713th place.

The "Quack Quack" Guy

When Paul "X-22" Magriel first sat down at his new table, his reputation preceded him. A few people at the table knew him only as "the Quack Quack guy." X-22 is known for putting in a "Quack Quack" bet -- 2,200 -- or a "Double Quack" -- 4,400. There's also a "Triple Quack" -- 6,600.

He's known as X-22 because he was the 22nd player on the list when he won a big backgammon tournament.

X-22 wouldn't reveal his last name until a passing tournament director told everyone. Once the players found out, he treated them to a Triple Quack followed by a Rainbow Bet -- another Magriel specialty. It's a bet with one of each chip. One orange, one yellow, one blue, and one black makes 6,600. X-22 is quite the character.

Gavin Smith Makes the Second Best Hand

Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith just lost some more chips when he doubled up a shorter stack at his table. They got it all in on the turn, with the board reading A-9-4. Smith's hand, the normally dominant A-K, was second best to his opponent's 9-9. There was no runner-runner miracle for Smith who is now down to 36,000 chips.

Dutch Boyd Has Been Eliminated

Dutch Boyd
Dutch Boyd
Russ "Dutch" Boyd was the latest notable to head home earlier than he'd have liked. Dutch, playing from the big blind, got all in preflop against the player in the cutoff seat. Here's what the players showed . . .

Boyd: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Boyd, in a coinflip situation, came up short when his opponent made a straight on a board of {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs}.

Poker Karma?

Is this yet another instance of poker karma?

Player A raises reflop and is reraised by player B.

Player A thinks for a long time, says "Okay, let's race," and reraises all in.

Player B shrugs, calls and rolls over {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. Player A then shows {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}.

Not much of a race there. Time for some poker karma.

Flop: {10-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} . . . . No more help came for player A. The poker gods have spoken.
