"Kid Poker" Takes Down a Big One

"Kid Poker" Daniel Negreanu
"Kid Poker" Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu limped in from early position. Action folded around to the big blind who checked his option. The two took a flop heads up . . .

{4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{J-Spades}

The big blind bet 3,000 and Negreanu promptly called. The turn brought the {9-Clubs}. The big blind bet 10,000 and again, Negreanu looked him up. The river came the {6-Clubs}. Without hesitation, the big blind pushed out 20,000 chips. Daniel took his time, at one point saying "Why does that scare me so much? (as he pointed to the {4-Hearts}) Eventually Negreanu made the call. The big blind turned over {J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} but Daniel had that beat holding the {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Negreanu is now a force with 95,000.

Gus Hansen calm and relaxed

On a flop of {K-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, the BB leads out for 2,200 and Gus Hansen calls from the button. The turn card is the {3-Spades}. The big blind bets 6,000 and Hansen makes the call. The river is the {10-Spades} and the BB checks. Hansen moves all in for 13,675 and the BB calls. Hansen shows {6-Spades}{4-Spades} for the backdoor flush, and the BB mucks.

A Maria Ho KO

Maria Ho
Maria Ho
Maria Ho just moved her stack up over 60,000 while knocking out an opponent. She called his all in bet of 14,000 and was in great shape with {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} against {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}. The flop of {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts} made things even better, giving her a set. And the turn {6-Clubs} and river {2-Spades} gave her the pot.

Chip Reese Eliminated

The action was folded to Chip Reese on the button who raised to 2,000. Young Australian Julian Powell made the call from the small blind and the big blind folded.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Spades} and Powell checked. Reese made a bet of 4,000, and Powell raised to 17,000. Reese went into the tank for a long time, eventually moving in for just over 30,000. Powell made the call. Reese turned over {Q-Spades}{7-Spades} for a flush draw, while Powell had top pair with {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

Unfortunately for Reese, no spades emerged to help him dig his way out, and he will not see Day Two of this year's main event.

David Benyamine Has Been Eliminated

After raising to 600 and getting one caller, Benyamine and his opponent saw a 8-Q-7 flop. Benyamine called his opponent's 3,000 flop bet, and after both players checked a King on the turn, Benyamine moved in when another 7 fell on the river. But Benyamine's A-Q ran into his opponent's 7-8, and that full house brought an end to Benyamine's main event.

Gavin Smith's Stack Slips

After seeing a flop of {J-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, Gavin Smith and his opponent both checked. After the {2-Hearts} came on the turn, Smith's opponent led out for 2,000 and Smith called. Smith also called a 4,000 bet on the river. His opponent turned over pocket Kings, Smith mucked, and he's now down to 30K.

Negreanu Folds Best Hand

Board: {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades}

A player under the gun limps and the player next to him raises to 3,000. Daniel Negreanu, in middle position, calls. UTG makes it 15,000 and the next player is all in for an additional 9,700. Negreanu folds and UTG calls, showing {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. The other player has {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and wins the pot.

After the flop, Negreanu says, "I knew I woulda flopped it," as he pointed to the eight. "I woulda had a set of eights." If the limper hadn't raised, it's safe to say Negreanu would have 60,000 more chips than he has now.
