Katja Thater, who won a bracelet in Razz last year, will not be winning a bracelet in Pot-Limit Hold'em, at least not this weekend. She's just been eliminated.
Max Pescatori just took his seat next to his fellow countryman, Dario Minieri. The affable Pescatori is unfortunately sporting a sling on his right arm.
When asked about his injury, Pescatori told us that he'd broken his humerus, the bone in the upper arm, in some sort of a brawl.
"There were five of them... but you should see what they look like!" laughed the Italian Pirate.
Eli Elezra is making his rounds from table to table greeting some of his fellow players and good friends. He's stopped to say hello to Jennifer Harman, Phil Ivey, Minh Ly, Amnon Filippi, among others. Elezra seems very joyful as he bounces from table to table; he must be running well.
The buzz around the WSOP was that this event may only get around 200-250 runners at best. There are currently 350 players entered in the tournament, which seems to be well over the expected amount.
Players such as Amnon Filippi are paying special attention to this number. Filippi had a prop bet going for $1,000 that there will be a total of over 350 contestants in the field. The field is sitting right at 350 players with still time left in late registration. As of right now, the bet is a push.
Late registration will be open for the first two levels of the tournament.
Despite all the star power in this room, we're still missing one of poker's biggest names: Phil Hellmuth. Making a super-late arrival is nothing new for the Poker Brat, but one has to wonder what he'll do to make his "entrance." Stay tuned...
We mentioned that table #18 is fairly loaded with Jennifer Harman, Shannon Shorr and 1983 World Champion Tom McEvoy. Add the following late arrivals--Steve Zolotow, Toto Leonidas and the 1986 World Champion Berry Johnston.
Michael Binger had just taken his seat at table #9 and Eli Elezra just sat down at table #14--but not before concluding a little business first, as he walked over to Jeffrey Lisandro at table #4 to exchange some cash-game chips for a few dollars.
Andy Bloch raised to 600 from middle position and David Singer called from the small blind. The flop was . Singer checked, Bloch bet 700 and Singer called. The turn was the . Singer checked, Bloch bet 1,100 and Singer called again. The river was the . Singer checked a third time, Bloch fired out 3,000 and Singer made the call.
Bloch turned up for a full house, Singer mucked, and Bloch dragged the sizeable pot. After the hand, Bloch was up to 26,500 while Singer fell to 14,500.
You always find players showing up late to a poker tournament and today three of them just made fashionable appearances at the newly-formed table #39. Tuan Le, Doug Lee and Jean-Robert Bellande have all sat down to play. When Tuan Le took his seat a player at the table said, "That's my fish!", which set them both to laughing.
