Fighting His Way Back

Howard Lederer
Howard Lederer
After doubling up Minh Ly and moving himself to the very edge of the abyss, Howard Lederer has come clawing back. He won two uncontested pots very shortly after that to work back up to around 40,000. Just a moment ago, he and Minh Ly hooked up for Round Two.

Action was folded all the way around the table to the small blind, and Minh Ly pushed at Howard, raising to 18,000. Lederer smooth-called, saying, "This is my spot." The flop came out {A-Spades} {J-Hearts} {6-Spades}. Ly checked it over, and Lederer wasted no time moving all in for his remaining 24,000, enough to push Ly out. That pot chipped The Professor up further, close to 60,000.

On the very next hand, John-Paul Kelly opened from middle position for 16,000, and it came back to Lederer in the small blind. He pushed it, moving all in for 54,000. Kelly ducked out, and Lederer has now won more pots in the past five minutes than he has won in perhaps the two or three hours prior. He has climbed back to 82,000, after being severly in danger with 14,000 just moments ago.

Ly Teaches the Professor a Lesson

Minh Ly opens from the button with a pot raise to 21,000. Next to act is Howard Lederer, and he reraises all in, covering Minh Ly. Ly calls, and shows down {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds}. Howard sees he's been bested by one, showing down {4-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}.

The board doesn't come through for The Professor. It runs out {8-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {A-Spades}. When the dust settles, Minh Ly has doubled up to 178,000, while Lederer is crippled all the way down to just 14,000.

Martel De La Chesnaye Eliminated in 13th Place ($12,088)

From under the gun, Jonathan Depa opened it up with a raise to 17,000. Action passed all the way around to the small blind, where Martel De La Chesnaye moved all in for just 5,000 more. After Depa called, the hands were tabled:

Depa: {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}
De La Chesnaye: {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}

The board came dry for De La Chesnaye: {8-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {5-Spades} {5-Diamonds}. He will head out of here, marked down for a 13th-place finish. For his two-day run, he will pocked $12,088.

Kory Mitchell Eliminated in 14th Place ($12,088)

Kory Mitchell and Allen Cunningham got into an all-in battle, and the cards were shown down:

Cunningham: {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} {7-Spades} {4-Clubs}
Mitchell: {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {7-Clubs}

The board ran out {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}. Both players made their sets, but Cunningham's was the big one. He knocks out Mitchell and adds on to his chip lead.

Mitchell had a fantastic show in this event, and he will pocket $12,088 for his work.

Lederer Stays Alive

The Professor has doubled up through big stack Max Pescatori. The players got all in on the flop with the board showing {J-Clubs} {2-Spades} {A-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}. Lederer held {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {8-Spades}, and was able to hold over Pescatori's {J-Spades} {5-Spades} {4-Clubs} {6-Clubs}.

Dustin Sitar Eliminated in 15th Place ($12,088)

Allen Cunningham raised it up in late position, and he and Dustin Sitar ended up getting their chips all in preflop. Sitar showed down {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}, content to race for a double-up. Cunningham wasn't having it though. He tabled {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}, and was in control of Sitar's fate.

The dealer provided no salvation for Sitar, as he ran out a flop of {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {6-Hearts}. The {Q-Hearts} on the turn ended any chance for a miracle, as Cunningham's full house was unbeatable. A meaningless {5-Hearts} dropped on the river, and Sitar will head for the exit.

For his two-day, two-night effort, Dustin Sitar will cash a check for $12,088, a little bump up from the previous finisher.

George Rahme Eliminated in 16th Place ($9,460)

George Rahme Eliminated
George Rahme Eliminated
George Rahme got all in preflop holding {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}. He got action in one spot, as Kory Mitchell looked him up with {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}.

The two were racing, but the board failed to bring the help that Rahme needed. It ran out {3-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}. No pair for Rahme means he is eliminated in 16th place. For his efforts, he will take home just shy of $10,000.

Ryan Carey Eliminated in 17th Place ($9,460)

It's the time of the night when coin-flips are pretty much the only way we see any real action.

Ryan Carey found himself on the losing end of the one he was just involved in, and it cost him his whole stack. He and David Bergerson both got it all in preflop, Carey with {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades}, and Bergerson with the two overs: {A-?} {K-?}.

We didn't catch the full board, but there was a {K-?} right on the flop, giving Bergerson the edge, and putting Carey on the brink of extinction. He failed to catch up as the board ran out, and he is eliminated in 17th place, pocketing $9,460.

A Slow Night

Don't worry, we're still here. We are trying desperately to provide as many updates as possible, but the pace of play has slowed right to a crawl. Even more crawly than it was on the money bubble. There are very few contested pots right now, and even fewer showdowns. The vast majority of the pots are being won before the flop, or with a single flop bet. We have our eyes open still though... barely!
