A Steicke Customer

David Steicke limped in early position, and then called the 700 raise from an opponent in mid-to-late position.

The flop came down 2-3-9 and Steckie open-shoved for 2,255. Mr Mid-To-Late Position called with pocket kings, and imagine his distress when the turn came down an ace.

Steicke now on 6,200.

Events Just Prior to the Break

Minneapolis Jim Meehan has doubled up to around 6,000 with {Q-Clubs} {J-Hearts} against an opponent's {Q-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} on a Queen-high board.

Meanwhile Joe Jacob has been going on a massive rush of some sort, catapulting his stack up to 17,600. Most notably he eliminated Tony Cousineau - all in on an A-K-Q-J board, Cousineau was holding A-K for top two, but Jacob was holding A-10 for the straight. A brick on the river, and we are Tony-less.

Also I am sad to announce that Hanger-In-There Of The Day Mr Mickey Appleman has bitten the tournament dust - his pocket Fours met the, er, A-2 of his opponent on the button, and an Ace on the river sealed the deal for the perma-short stack.

Doyle Brunson In Da House!

Doyle sings Sanatra
Doyle sings Sanatra
Our favourite king of funk and hip hop daddy Doyle 'Living Legend' Brunson is in da house. He was recently spotted trundling through the tables and generally being the iconic figure that he is. I was tempted to leap from my chair like an overenthusiastic salmon and demand to see his press pass, but I thought better of it and let him through.

Mama Mia

Itsa notto gooda newsio
Itsa notto gooda newsio
Mama mia, we've lost Jeff Lisandro, the Italian stallion running kings into an aces. Not even an eel covered in baby oil could have wriggled its way out of that one.

Back in Action

After a brief hiatus, the action has now recommenced with the likes of JC Tran and Kevin O'Donnell setting the pace. Andy Philachack and Bill Gazes aren't too far behind, as are David Levi and the future Mrs Snoops, Jennifer Tilly.

No Mircale For Amnon

It would have required a comeback of Rocky Balboa proportions to have survived the next round, as Amnon Filippi and his paltry 75 in chips go crashing out on the very next hand. And what a bad beat it was too (!), his K-T being slapped silly by his opponent's Q-7, which proceeded to pair not only the queen but also the seven for good measure.

Amnon Filipi Crippled

Amnon Filippi, who I believe final tabled the $50,000 HORSE event one year, has been bashed down to just 75 chips and is awaiting his demise as if it were his last night on Death Row. The hand in question was a stomach churner, Amnon calling a 900 preflop raise before calling an all-in on the 7-7-6 rainbow flop. Making a smashing call with pocket deuces, Amnon was delighted to see his opponent turn over an inferior A-K, but overwhelmed with dismay when the counterfeiting six on the turn rendered his pair useless.
