Jose Luis Velador Makes Good Call, Now Over 900K

Jose Luis Velador
Jose Luis Velador
A short-stacked David Tashman moved all in from early position for 5,500. When action got to Matthew LaGarde, he reraised to 24,000 from late position. Jose Luis Velador called from the big blind, thus creating a side pot between the two.

The flop came {K-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} and Velador checked. LaGarde bet 33,000 and Velador made the call. The turn brought the {3-Clubs} and again Velador checked. This time, LaGarde checked behind.

The river fell the {9-Clubs} and after a Velador check, LaGarde pushed out 70,000 chips. Velador eventually made the call prompting LaGarde to instantly toss his hand into the muck without showing it.

Velador tabled {6-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} for a lonely pair of threes and a missed flush draw and David Tashman mucked. Velador won both the main and side pots and became the dominant chip leader with just over 930,000. David Tashman was eliminated.

Andy Garza Likes to Gamble

The under the gun player folded and Andy Garza was next to act. He moved all in for 220,000. Action folded to Osmind Dardon in middle position and he called all in for his last 129,000. The rest of the table got out of the way and the players showed:

Garza: {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}
Dardon: {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}

Garza failed to catch up on the {9-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} board and he slipped to 108,000 chips. Dardon, meanwhile, is up to about 277,000.

Brian Suttle Can't Hit Presto

Brian Suttle moved all in from UTG for 37,500 and Scott Bergman called from the small blind.

Suttle {5-Hearts} {5-Clubs}

Bergman {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}

Bergman's queens held up on the {10-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {6-Spades} {4-Spades} board and Suttle was eliminated. After the hand, Bergman was up to 100,000.

Flavio Franco Eliminated

Flavio Franco got the rest of his chips in before the flop vs. Roger Park and was delighted to see Park turn over {5-Clubs} {5-Hearts}, well behind his {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts}. The flop, though was {8-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}, making Park a set. The turn was the {K-Spades}, the river was the {10-Diamonds} and Franco was eliminated.

Casey McCarrel Eliminated

Casey McCarrel Eliminated
We caught up to this hand on the flop. Casey McCarrel and Jose Luis Velador were in a heads up pot with the board reading {K-Spades} {5-Hearts} {2-Diamonds}. They both checked the flop. The turn brought the {2-Clubs} and McCarrel led out for 20,000. Velador raised to 120,000 total, which was just enough to put McCarrel all in. After a few minutes of deliberation, during which time a clock was called, McCarrel made the call. The players showed:

McCarrel: {8-Hearts} {8-Spades}
Velador: {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds}

The turn and river blanked and McCarrel was sent packing. Velador's heater continues and he now sits behind a stack of over 770,000 chips.

Zeph Baer's Runner-Runner Punch

Zeph Baer opened for a 16,500 raise, Joanne Haas moved all in for 36,000, Frank Byrne moved all in behind her for 95,500 and Baer made the call.

Haas {A-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}

Byrne {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}

Baer {K-Spades} {K-Hearts}

The flop was {A-Hearts} {10-Spades} {3-Hearts} , making Haas two pair. The turn was the {5-Hearts} and Baer picked up the nut flush draw and the {J-Hearts} on the river filled it. Baer's runner-runner finish knocked out both Haas and Byrne and he's now up to 260,000.

Stephen Knuth Eliminated by Utsab Saha

Action folded around to Stephen Knuth in the small blind and he completed. Utsab Saha exercised his big blind option and raised to 15,000 total. Knuth made the call.

The flop came {A-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {2-Clubs} and Knuth checked it. Saha bet 20,000 and Knuth moved all in. Saha called and the players showed:

Saha: {A-Clubs} {7-Clubs}
Knuth: {8-Clubs} {4-Hearts}

The turn and river came the {3-Diamonds} and {3-Spades} respectively and Stephen Knuth was eliminated. Utsab Saha is now very much in the mix with about 275,000 chips.

Richard Toth Eliminated

Richard Toth's day just drew to an end when he ran his {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} into the {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs} of Jamel Maistriaux and came up short. Toth made his exit and Maistriaux, after picking up a few other pots just prior to this hand, increased his chip count to the tune of roughly 185,000 total.
