Jose Luis Velador Wins Huge Pot, Takes Chip Lead

Jose Luis Velador
Jose Luis Velador
We caught up to this hand on the river. With the board reading {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {9-Spades} {5-Spades} {4-Diamonds} and a good sized pot in the center, Jose Luis Velador bet 85,000 over to his lone opponent Richard Toth. Toth contemplated for upwards of four minutes before finally making the call. Velador showed {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts} for top two pair. Toth flashed the {K-Diamonds} as he mucked.

After the hand, Velador's chip stack is just shy of 500,000 while Toth is down to approximately 55,000.

Beth Shak Eliminated
Beth Shak Eliminated
James Lohmer moved all in for 35,100 in early position. When action got to Shane Stacey, he called from late position. Beth Shak, with just 14,000 remaining and a chance to triple up, called all in from the big blind without looking at her cards. The players showed:

Lohmer: {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}
Stacey: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}
Shak: {5-Spades} {4-Clubs}

The flop was perfect for Shak as it came {8-Clubs} {8-Spades} {5-Hearts}. The turn however, was far from perfect falling the {Q-Hearts}. Shak got no help when the river came the {K-Hearts} and she was eliminated in 62nd place. She takes home $7,547 for her impressive finish here today.

Fager on Fumes

Scott Bergman raised to 12,800 from UTG, Steven Fager moved all in for 35,200, Joseph O'Neil called all in for 33,600 and Bergman folded.

O'Neil {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}

Fager {J-Spades} {J-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} and O'Neil took it down, increasing his stack to 90,000 and crippling Fager to only 1,600.

Fager was all in on the next hand. The small blind called, Bergman moved all in for 24,000 from the big blind and the small blind folded.

Fager {Q-Hearts} {J-Hearts}

Bergman {9-Clubs} {9-Spades}

The flop was {8-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {5-Clubs}, Bergman's nines still in the lead, but Fager picked up the flush draw. He made the flush on the turn when the {K-Hearts} fell. The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Fager survived. He's still on fumes, though with only 7,000 in chips.

Chris Cornell Eliminated

Chris Cornell raised to 15,000 from middle position and Andy Garza called from late position. When it got to Shane Stacey in the big blind, he moved all in for just over 60,000. Cornell called all in for his last 28,200 and Garza passed. The players showed:

Cornell: {Q-Hearts} {10-Clubs}
Stacey: {A-Spades} {K-Spades}

The flop hit both players coming {K-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}. Stacey still had the best of it however and his position only improved when the {7-Clubs} hit the turn. The river seatled the deal, falling the {A-Diamonds}. Chris Cornell was eliminated and Shane Stacey chipped up to just over 330,000.

Morgan Machina Picks Up a Nice Pot Without a Showdown

Morgan Machina
Morgan Machina
Action folded around to Fabrice Soulier in late position and he raised to 13,400. Morgan Machina called from the button and the two went heads up to the flop.

The flop came down {K-Spades} {10-Clubs} {9-Spades} and Soulier bet 9,000. Machina made the call and the turn came the {7-Diamonds}. Soulier checked 4th street and Machina bet 17,000 which Soulier quickly called.

The river came the {4-Spades} and after a Soulier check, Machina moved all in for approximately 53,000. Soulier folded and Machina picked up the pot without a showdown. After the hand, Machina is up to about 160,000 while Soulier slips to just under 49,000 chips.

Set Over Set

Andy Garza opened for 11,000 from the cutoff, Osmin Dardon moved all in for 42,000 from the small blind and Garza called.

Dardon {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades}

Garza {7-Spades} {7-Clubs}

The flop was a doozy-- {J-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {3-Spades} making both players sets. The turn was the {3-Hearts}, the river was the {5-Hearts}, and Dardon doubled through Garza with set over set, increasing his stack to 110,000. Garza was down to 160,000.

Thomas Partridge Eliminated

Thomas Partridge got the last of his chips all in preflop with {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} vs. the {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts} of Utsab Saha. An ace hit the flop for Saha, Partridge could not improve and he hit the rail.

Saha was up to 135,000 after the hand.

Phil Hellmuth Eliminated in 71st Place ($6,604)

Phil Hellmuth Eliminated
Phil Hellmuth Eliminated
Action folded around to Jeff Norman on the button and he raised to 20,000. The small blind passed and Phil Hellmuth called all in for his remaining 10,200. The players showed:

Hellmuth: {Q-Hearts} {J-Clubs}
Norman: {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}

The flop came {A-Spades} {8-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} missing both players. The turn was also a blank coming the {2-Hearts}. Hellmuth needed one of six remaining queens or jacks if he was to stay alive. The {K-Hearts} on the river missed him and he was eliminated in 71st place. Along with the $6,604, he also takes home a place in history as this was his record 65th WSOP cash.
