Early Aggression; Last Longer Bets

A player at one table called our reporter over to comment how aggressive his table was. Our reporter commented on how that was pretty normal in WSOP events. His reply was "Well we have to be aggressive, we're not sure how much longer we're going to be here!"

We also overheard a prop bet on another table...a live longer bet! That's taking the idea of a "last longer bet" a bit too literally!

Different Breed of Player

A typical sight for a lot of younger poker players is someone that sits at the table wearing headphones while listening to music. At last count, only 8 people total in both the blue and green sections here are wearing headphones. That's 8 out of 500 players. So far, we have 2,197 players registered for this event, with registration taking place through the first two levels.

The Calm Before The Storm

Today's field is very amateur-heavy with more Hawaiian shirts than poker shirts - an unusual occurance for a WSOP field.

There's also a quiet calm across the floor, as we're without the usual continuous ruffling of chips displayed by the young guns of the poker world.

Seniors Rolling In

Welcome back to the Rio where it's time for some old school poker! The seniors have taken over the Rio as already there are over 2,100 entrants for today's event and we're still 15 minutes away from our scheduled start time. The Amazon room is full with tables spreading into the Tropical and Brasilia rooms. It's going to be a big field!

Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for all the live action!

Seniors' Monday at the Rio

It's one of the traditional days on the WSOP tourney calendar on Monday as Event #42, $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em World Championship, gets underway. Players must be 50 years or older to participate.

A huge field is expected for this one. Last year's Seniors event drew 1,882 participants, and was taken down by Ernest Bennett, who won $348,423.
