Alan Smurfit Has Been Eliminated

Alan Smurfit
Alan Smurfit
Alan Smurfit raised to 2,100 and was reraised to 5,000. He called for the last of his chips and found that his {J-Spades} {J-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} was up against his opponent's {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {9-Hearts}. Smurfit spiked a full house on the {J-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts} flop and after the {K-Clubs} on the turn it looked like Smurfit was about to double up. But the {A-Spades} spiked on the river, giving the other player the bigger full house and bringing Smurfit's night to an end.

Seidel Eliminates Markholt

Erik Seidel eliminated Lee Markholt when Seidel's hand of A-A-A-3 held up against Markholt's A-Q-5-3. Markholt failed to find anything other than ace high with no possible low. After the hand, Seidel is up to 26,000.

Meehan of Silence

Several players have complained about "Minneapolis" Jim Meehan talking too loudly at his table. It's true, as his table is several feet away and we've been able to hear him perfectly.

When a Tournament Director arrived to ask him to speak quietly, Meehan acted somewhat shocked that people thought he was being too loud. In response to the request, he said "Be quiet? Ok, I won't speak for an hour."

And he's been true to his word thus far. We'll keep you updated on his silent treatment. Needless to say, the remaining players at his table are quite thankful.

Prize Pool Information

We've received the information from Harrah's as to the prize payouts for this event. The top 72 players will be payed, with last place receiving $2,751 and first place receiving $216,249.

Security?

All we heard from our media booth here was, "By the time security gets here, I'll have had my addiction fixed for twenty minutes!" and we looked up to see "Minneapolis" Jim Meehan standing up at his table, cigarette in mouth and lighter in hand. We saw a flash from the lighter as it ignited and he brought it closer to his mouth.

He stopped just shy, smiled, and sat back down.

We're not sure exactly what just transpired, but we think he might need a cigarette.

Must Be Dangerous Waters

We've only been back from break for under ten minutes and we've already lost six players. We're not sure exactly what's going on out there, but in a game like PLO8, one must assume that there are some really, really, really bad rivers being hit.

We're Back

The dinner hour (and a half) is over and we're back to play. Four more levels to go and then we'll wrap for the night.

Flack Flops Nuts

On a board of {A-Hearts} {K-Spades} {J-Spades} {4-Diamonds}, Layne Flack and his opponent got all their chips in the middle. Flack was in a commanding lead holding Q-10-7-3 for Broadway. The river bricked with the {2-Diamonds} and Flack increased his chip stack to 15,400 after eliminating his opponent.
