Gavin Smith made it 700 to go preflop and was called by two other players. Gavin picked up a flush draw on a flop of holding . His opponent, holding held top and bottom pair and raised Gavin all in after Gavin had led out on the flop.
Gavin called and the fell on the turn, opening up Gavin for a low. The on the river gave him a low, a flush, and the whole pot.
That includes former world champions. Berry Johnston was all in and drawing almost dead--emphasis on "almost." He hit a one-outer on the river to stay alive and double to around 6,500.
In a pot where five players were all in before the flop, Dutch Boyd (holding ) spiked a set of sixes on the river to win the high half of the pot and leave the low for two others to divvy up. Two other players were eliminated, and Boyd now sits with 5,700.
All the chips went in the middle after a flop and Allen Cunningham holding a deuce and a four for the nut low to Eric Ambrosen's . But Ambrosen spiked a deuce on the turn, giving him the wheel and sending Cunningham out of the tournament. Ambrosen is up to 6,700.
Earlier we reported that one hundred players had already been eliminated. Apparently, that figure was off. By a lot. We're already down to 512 remaining players, meaning in just the first two levels we've lost over 200 players.
Another late arrival for today's event, Erik Seidel, just doubled up. He hit a set of kings holding when the flop came , and after all the money went in and the turn and river came the and there was no low and his opponent missed on his straight draw. Seidel is now up to 5750.
You can register for World Series events up to the end of the 2nd level, and Layne Flack and Chris Ferguson must've gotten in just under the wire. They're now playing in this event.
We weren't able to get the hand, but just before break Andy was down to 1,250 in chips. On the first hand after returning from break, Andy was eliminated.
