Easy Peasy

Brandon Adams came into today near the top of the leaderboard, and he has continued accumulating chips. He recently raised to 1,800 from under the gun. Larry Spraker, in the cutoff position, reraised to 3,800. When action folded back to Adams, he calmly pushed his whole stack in the middle, effectively putting Spraker all in for his last 21,000. Spraker wanted nothing to do with it and chose to fold.

Greenstein Burned

Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein raised to 1,500 from middle position, and Richard Burns called behind him. The flop came {2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. Greenstein bet 2,000, and Burns called. The turn was the {5-Diamonds}. This time Greenstein bet 3,000, and Burns again made the call.

The river brought the {6-Spades}. Greenstein checked, and Burns checked as well. Greenstein showed {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for top pair and a busted flush draw. Burns showed {J-Clubs}{J-Spades} and took the pot.

Greenstein is down to 13,300.

Jens Voertmann Eliminated

Jens Voertmann
Jens Voertmann
Jens Voertmann moved all in with {A-?} {J-?} and was called by an opponent who woke up with {Q-?} {Q-?}. No help for Voertmann on the board and he hit the rail. At least he has one gold bracelet to take home to Germany, which he earned in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event.

Flash in the Pan Pappas

Greg Pappas raised to 2,000 and found a call from John Gordon in late position. The flop came {A-?} {3-?} {9-?} before Pappas moved all in and Gordon called.

Pappas revealed {A-?} {K-?} but was in big trouble to Gordon's {3-?} {3-?}. The turn and river blanked and Pappas is an early casualty here at the Rio.

Portal to the Future

Alexia Portal, from Day 1a
Alexia Portal, from Day 1a
Alexia Portal pushed all in from middle position with her last 6,850, and Alexander Borteh called from the small blind.

Borteh {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Portal {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The flop was nice for Portal -- {3-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. The {2-Spades} on the turn and {K-Hearts} on the river meant she still has some poker to play. She's up to 15,500.

Thomas Swensen Eliminated

Thomas Swensen was the latest player to get his walking papers. Swensen made a stand with {K-Clubs} {K-Spades} and got looked up by Mark Hurst holding {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}.

Hurst's hand was best on the {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} board and Swensen headed for the exit.

Gross Way To Go

Huai Zhang moved all in after Wayne Grosso limped in from the small blind. Gross ended up making the call after a few moments. He held {K-Spades} {10-Diamonds} up against Zhang's {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}. Grosso got there on the river with a gutshot to make a king-high straight and eliminate Zhang early on Day 2.

Jordan Likes the Ladies

A player in the cutoff position moved all in for approximately 5,000 and was called by both Ed Jordan on the button and an early-position opponent.

On a flop of {6-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {5-Hearts}, action was checked to Jordan, who moved all in. The early-position player folded.

Jordan held {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades} and his all-in opponent held {J-Spades} {J-Clubs}.

The turn fell the {8-Spades}, and the river fell the {8-Clubs}, and Jordan moved up to 93,000 in chips.
